Spam or not???????
« on: May 20, 2005, 05:55:31 AM »
I am getting ready for my next trip and decided to set a profile on Cindy Agency. I have seen them accused of "spam" letters before. So I wanted to get your opinion on these. It seems these letters are so generic they could be sent from anyone to anyone. Nothing is specific to my profile or pictures, or to their own profile. Let me know what you think. Even some third letters I have received look like "spam". My travel buddy and I are so sick of the spam mail and lack of honest looking letters we may skip Dnepropetrovsk all together.Letter Number OneHello Scott, Let's get acquainted. My name is XXXX and just like you I'm looking for my happiness and my destiny. I think thatbeing happy is the most important thing in the human life. I do realize that different people put different meaning in theword "happiness". For me happiness is to love and to be loved, to have a strong family and to give my love and tenderness tomy husband and my child. What is happiness to you? What are you looking for in life? What qualities do you like in people? Please, tell me about yourself. I will be glad to answer any questions that you will ask. Who knows, maybe this letter willbe the start of the new stage in our lives? Best regards, XXXXLetter Number TwoHello Scott, This is one of the most difficult letters that I ever had to write in my life. I feel very shy to contact a man whohas no idea who I am, but I know who you are and it makes me want to introduce myself. In general I'm a rather modest person and I don't easily communicate with strangers, but somehow your profile made me feelthat I was welcome. I don't know what it was that appealed to me I your words, but I felt the urge to reach out to you.You seem to be able to make a great father of the family and a supportive partner for a decent woman.Of course it is very early to make any conclusions, but I do hope that you will respond to my initiative and confirm thepositive impression that I already have of you.Sincerely, YYYYYY

Neither letter is "Spam"

Letter #1 is a canned response to an ad on a MOB website, probably from an agency, it may have been sent without the lady's permission or knowledge.  Letter #2 seems more real, at least it sounds more real.

I've been wrong before so you shouldn't place much faith in my opinion.

Scott,

I used this agency back in 2002.  Had a real unhappy time in Dnepr.  15 first dates and only one second date.  I ended the second date part way through the evening when my date decided she could be rude to me!

IMHO both of these letters are "canned".  You can expect a canned type letter first or as a first response.  After that unless the letter is personal and discusses issues raised in your letter move everything to "deleted items" and move on.

I have read a number of complaints about cindy agency on this subject.  Remember the advice on the first page of all the "lonely planet" guides.

"Things change.  Good places go bad, bad places close, new ones open"

No unique phrases, no gross errors in grammar, no misspellings.. makes googling for similar letters by searching phrases impossible.

A lot of thought went into constructing these. Quite clever suggesting the same author.

FWIW

Yeah, now that you mention the lack of grammar errors, it doesn't look like either letters were written by your typical RW/UW.  They flow too smoothly, if you know what I mean.
