Flight over the pond into Dnipro
« on: March 01, 2007, 03:05:01 PM »
I have lined up (put a hold on it) my flight from IAD into VIE and then on into DNK on Austrian Air and returning the same route.  I leave mid May and return mid June.  The total cost including all taxes was $926 with Barbara at GoToRussia, Phone 1-888-263-0023.  GTR is a consolidator for flights to FSU.  Barbara is excellent to work with, and funny thing is that she has Brazilian ancestry and says she is the only non FSU person in the office.

She doesn't have flights at this price for every day, and the price is only good for flights departing USA in April and May and returning within 3 months.  And, of course, she only has a limited number of tickets available for each day.

VIE is a good point to land with connecting flights to several cities in Ukraine and other FSU cities.

On the return, there is a night stopover in VIE which I like for a couple of reasons:  1) It means I will not be having to get to the airport early in DNK, and 2) it allows for some siteseeing in Vienna.  Austrian Air will pick up the hotel for the night.

But, I am considering staying two nights in Vienna.  This will allow for a full day of site seeing in Vienna.  This is a little bit costly because, if I do it, there is an additional cost of $100 for the ticket and Austrian Air then will not even pay for one night of lodging.  So I'm looking at probably $300 at least for this one day of siteseeing.  I still think it is worth it since I will be right there.

Any comments on what to do in Vienna for a day in mid June, and what are some less expensive hotels to stay at near the airport??
I am a sex tourist who is driven by the hunt with no emotion or empathy and suffer from Satyriasis, Don Juan Syndrome and Madonna-Whore complex (but on alternating days) with confidence issues and many other issues. I suffer loneliness with no family, friends or money.  I have ED and orgasm problems

If you are going to sightsee you don't want to be near the airport.  There is nothing there.   There is a tourist/hotel kiosk in the airport and they can hook you up with a hotel and car fairly reasonably.   I stayed at a reasonably priced older hotel right in the middle of the main boulevard which was closed to cars and was full of stores, restaurants, night clubs and other interesting sights.  (Even 2 or 3 McDonald's)  It was a neat place to walk around.   I think the other tourist sites are all very close.   You may also book someplace in advance on the internet but get downtown.   When I stayed at Austrian air's hotel just getting something to eat was a one mile walk.

If you are going to use the free night at a hotel provided by Austrian and want to see the city center, consider these points:
-Austrian will provide a minivan to transport you and others to the hotel, which is about 10 minutes from the airport. (I stayed at the Fishman Hotel, but there are others that Austrian uses).
-A taxi ride from the Fishman to downtown Vienna is approximately 70 euros
-If you want to save a some $$, take the metro from the airport directly to downtown Vienna (I think it's 3 euros one-way). When you're ready to call it a day, take the metro back to the airport and then grab a taxi or shuttle to your hotel, it will be substantially cheaper. Alternately, you might find a few travelers willing to share a taxi from the Fishman to downtown.

If you get stuck at the Fishman, you can walk to a small village which is about 3 miles away. It's a sleepy little burg but there are some nice restaurants there.

Geez...  the cost for a LHR to DNK flight (£433) is almost as much as your IAD to DNK flight!  I don't suppose that your travel agent can book flights from London to the FSU?
