run on sentences
« on: April 16, 2005, 10:29:13 AM »
Now on that "other board" someone made a post referring to a Moderator who did not use spell chack and this Moderator proved that he only misspelled two words and it made him very happy but spell check does not check for grammatical content and "run on sentences" so I am wondering if I posted a very long run on sentence and used spell check if it would identify the problem but I don't think this forum has the spell check feature at least I have never used it so I will keep looking or maybe I will make a suggestion to Dan if he is not already aware of it but if he is everything will be ok as long an I am careful and try to make my grammer real good and since everyone on the other board is very fond of my idiotic Clyde posts I thought I would post one here in the odds and ends thread and I hope you are not too upset and I thank you for reading my post.

Now do Russian people know the concept of run on sentences?

Is it a purely a thing us Americans do when we are too lazy to punctuate?

Does such thing like "comma" exist in English grammar:?:D???

If seriously then a check spell is not such useless thing for you Americans if you wish people with another mother language would be abble to understand what you are speaking about

I have never heard of a comma or a paragraph.

Actually, I used to know someone at work who spoke in a monotone voice and never ended sentences.

I had a Comp Lit professor in college that spoke this way.  Class was 8:00 AM in the morning.  I worked nights.

One day, (comma) I fell asleep with my head on the desk at about 8:15 (Kafka can do this to you).  I awoke about 9:55 AM, to a dark and empty classroom.  :D

As for grammar checking, it usually isn't offered on most Internet/browser add ons.  A person could always fire up Microsoft Word, do a grammar check, cut and paste into their browser, correct for the unknown characters that may occur with the differences in fonts and formatting, then submit their post.  Of course, it may just be easier to go to night school, and learn how to write.  ;)

The forum software has a built-in spell-checker ONLY if you are using MS Internet Explorer - which more than 67% of the visitors to the site use. It can be found among the formating buttons at the top of the posting window.

In my case, I use Opera, and the spell-checker button is not available.

Yes indeed, I remember Mr. Webster quite well, I also remember the calculator we used in those days was a #2 pencil and a Big Chief tablet.

This is a true story.

I had a friend who was an alchoholic and started attending AA meetings.

At one such meeting a man stood up and said: "Last year I could not spell alkeholic and now I are one."

Sorry Clyde, but this cannot be a true story.  Reason is obvious.  When a person stands up and talks, listeners cannot see any spelling.

This is actually a very old story and one that I have seen associated with 'enjuneer.'

I did think it was a true story because it was told to me by a friend who went to AA meetings.

Maybe it is an inside joke for the AA members.

I think that old joke originated about a Texas A&M aggie, as told by a UT tea sip.

I heard it about 5,212 years ago.

That picture is too funny, I haven't laughed that good in a while.  I'm going to make a copy, put a caption on it and post it in the briefing room bulletin board.
