Sanatoriums: aka getting the cure.
« on: April 04, 2005, 03:50:09 PM »
I will be spending three weeks in Ukraine in May.  I have read about sanatoriums in the FSU and have always been interested in experiencing this.  Well,  I will have the time and will be spending a few days at the sanatorium in Mirgorod.

According to the web site they can treat almost anything, including but not limited to radiation exposure from Chornobyl and venereal disease in women.  (I don't know why only in women.):?  Personally I have had periodic troubles with my gallbladder and this seems to be an area they specialize in.

I am curious if anyone else has spent time at a sanatorium and if so what was your experience like?

I was couples times with my family in sanatorium in Yalta.(My mother in law worked in GASPROM those times and Ukraine paid for russian gas with places in its Crym's sanantoriums)

They offered rather long list of medical inspection and physiotherapeutic procedure. But as no one member of our family were a fanat of  medical cure we took nothing, prefering sea beach to medical rooms (well a course of massage was an exception)

But if you want to have any treatment you should take as many mediacal documents about your medical problems as possible. One of the important should be a document which proves all your chronic deseases are in remission now.

As for few days you are going to spent in sanatorium then it's not seriouse because all sanatorium tours (true ones) count on 21 days treatment course.

Philb, Do you have Gall Stones? My brother was scheduled for getting his cut out and a friend suggested that he try a "holistic" method. It worked ! I for get the details but he drank a gallon af apple juice a day for 6 days and on the 7th I think he drank mineral oil. After a couple of weeks he passed all of them w/o an operation. The XRays confirmed it. I will get the details if you want.

No stones.  Cholecystitis, inflamation of the gall bladder.  I can currently manage it with dietary changes.  The surgeons say I am just postponing surgery by doing this.  Not that it does any harm of course.

I spet a few days in one a couple of years ago.

They are quite fun, although I confess, any longer and I would have been going stir crazy. Of course a week is no good for any kind of 'cure'.

The nicest thing is that one surrenders all responsibility, for everything, to other people and all the 'treatments' enhance the cared for aspects. Very relaxing. But full treatments, if they do any real good, need three weeks, or more, of daily work.

Sewriously, do not expect any real physical medical benefits, but the psycological benefits should not be underestimated.
