Documents for Status? -- AOS filed
« on: June 30, 2007, 03:03:54 PM »
N. finally passed her written test down at the DMV today. Unfortunatly, a sharp eyed employee there noted her I-94 expires on July 30; so her learner's permit expires then also.

For a non USC; the state of Georgia requires one of the following:
1)Foriegn passport with appropiate immigration documents
2)I-551   Resident Alien Card
3)I-668 Temorary Resident Alien Card

Any suggestions as to what I can get to show the DMV folks? Will the NOA that we will get when we file for AOS work?
What about an extension of I-94?

If you are adjusting status they should let her get her drivers license because she is married to a US citizen, you.  I believe you already said it ie. category number 1 above.  Go down to the DMV with her and speak with a supervisor.  Best of luck and keep calm.

Not sure about GA, but in FL my wife is able to renew her DL each year by producing a valid EAD card. Her DL expires on the day her EAD expires. They also require, as a non citizen, that she apply in person each time and wait for them to mail her DL to our home, rather than being able to walk out the door with it that day.

Sorry Bruce--no dice in GA. The passport and documents override the marriage certificate.   :(

What the problem will be is the gap from July 30---when her I-94 runs out until we get an approved something. The entire package for AOS and EAD is going out Tuesday (we haven't decided if she will file for AP as well).
I will be contacting the main DMV office tommorrow to see what alternatives there are--I hope we can use the NOA that they will send upon reciept of her packet

Passport and EAD usually does the trick.
I94 is not extendable.

Wow, another State that just wants to bust your balls.  Hopefully, your wife will get her green card quickly.

FYI=I posted this question on VisaJourney site as well.
I got the answer that a valid EAD will work in Georgia.
Several other posters there noted that the NOA was acceptable for California; but I haven't got a concrete answer on that for here.
