Hi everyone
« on: June 07, 2007, 07:48:55 PM »
Hi all!
I made a few posts without introducing myself properly, which led to questions about my background. Never been a fan of forums and had no idea there was some sort of a forum etiquette that had to be followed :)
I think someone mentioned that I should not be challenging views of those who are more experienced, without asking me about the experience I've had prior to making the statement, which wasn't a very nice thing to say.
Well, here goes.. I'm a RW, originally from Moscow; lived in Canada for a few years now; lived in France for a bit.. had a chance to see different people, different perspectives..
This forum caught my eye because it touches on issues relating to cultural differences that I went through and can relate to.
I was hoping to contribute to this forum by offering my help to anyone who has any questions about RW and cultural peculiarities of the russian people in general!! :)
So, hi everyone!

Welcome, Yulia!  We are glad you joined us.

Yes, you have much to offer the readership here, so please share.

And while there may appear to be a "pecking order" here, it's really not so.

I learn as much from an newbie with excitement in his eyes as he sees the FSU for the first time as I learn from my fellow "hitched" friends at RWD.  We all participate and contribute from our own unique and special perspectives, and so will you.

Plus~ what a cultural march you have experienced-- Russia, France, Canada!

Welcome Yulia:)

I have been posting on  this forum for about 5 months I should say I have both positive and negative experience but  none can deny that this is one of the greatest forum ever. No matter what, atmosphere is usually pleasent and rather friendly. If you were not a forum fan, you 'll probably become one:) . If you have any questions or problems with the features of the forum you can always e-mail our Admin he never leaves any request without response , unlike his partners on the other forums.

You mentioned about the cat fights in the other thread, well you see you 'll probably be tired waiting for them :P Actually there are few of us girls here and we try to keep it friendly  and truly support each other not only of our sense of solidarity  but because simpy we have respect towards each other's point of view. Though we always remember that we are on the men's territory here as they kindly reminded about it recently and we try not to exceed the credentials and remember that we are guests here in some way :))))))) well as far as I understood :)

So anyway you are welcome it is always nice to read someone who has  great written english:)

Best wishes

Jazzy:) in a classy mood as always, passed her English stylistics and practice of oral speech  final exam yesterday , got A mark   and now is waiting for her boy to come and visit this month:)))) Ураааааааааааааааааааааааааааааа!

Yulia,

Welcome Yulia.  I hope you have a long, interesting and beneficial  stay with us.

You certainly have much to share, and I look forward to reading your opinions.

To what do you attribute your excellent writing skills in English, other than intellect?  Did you work as a journalist?

Great city, Moscow, and the Moscow women have always impressed me.

Welcome Yulz!

What part of Canada do you live in? I very much enjoyed my time living there. 9 years in various parts of Nova Scotia and 5 years in Calgary, Alberta.

 What brought you to Canada?

Gator, I've always enjoyed linguistics :) always enjoyed learning different languages.. I love Russian language for its flexibility and eloquence. And after moving to Canada, I've grown to see beauty in English language as well. Oh, and I have a degree in business :) and let's be realistic, one won't make it far in business if s/he doesn't know how to write :D

 What brought you to Canada?

I've lived in Toronto since I moved to Canada. And I haven't had the chance to travel the country just yet (with a few exceptions like Montreal, Ottawa) but I am hoping to do so in the next few years. I would love to go to Nova Scotia; I came so close to going to Halifax a few months back, but the trip didn't work out :(
Calgary is amazing too, in a different way though :)
What brought me to Canada? The same reason that brings most immigrants here :) better prospects :) better opportunities :)

I just decided to move to Canada one day :) and that's all there is to it :) With France, I did some studies there (undergrad).
