Welcome Carriag... jump on in at any time with questions. observations, whatever's on your mind.  :)

"Jazzichka Classichka" hahahahahaha... I like that one.... I'm still wondering what "lapochka" means.. but hey, I spent an hour searching for "kartushka" in the dictionary after hearing it in the supermarket.  All these diminutive word forms... :-)  Makes the language interesting for sure!

AHHHHHHHHHHHH damn... of course you're right Jazzy.... it's potato/kartofyel/kartOshka ....  that's one word I mispronounce (and now it seems transliterally misspell) every single time.

But what is funny, is that we take the time to learn the words for all the fruits and vegetables, then arrive in Russia, and no one uses those words in actual conversation!  The real language lessons don't begin until you're actually there..  ;)

Yeah we never say kartofel unless it is somewhere at school the teacher is explaining to kids on biology lesson or older generations call kartoshka kartofel

the same is in english language well known for russian people english phrase How do you do is no longer used , cos they just say Hiya , well  maybe they say how do you do but only if they happen to meet the Queen or  some posh rich english person:)

Oh but that is natural all the languages are in  the inter-relations between each other,
Our professor told one little funny story about russian pilot who was about to land in the Uk aiport , so when the time came , he was telling to air traffic controller the following words: I am russian airoplation , please  make me sit down hahahahahah , thankfully english guy got it right and cleared him to land:)))

So some russian  people who know english not so good they interact russian words into english and the same as english people who do not know russian well interact english words into their  russiah speech , some words are adopting , some are so irritating in russian , for example the word  to lease an appartment , in russian it sounds dodgy, especially when they put it on the  banners on the street, those advertisments Лизинг =Leasing hahaha to me it sounds crazy and indecent , I do not know why.........

Okay Jazzichka Classichka,

Please remember, there are different dialects of English - PLEASE don't leave us suthan (Southern) folks out.  We have a way of using the knife to make English a little more user friendly. LOL (spoken in what I feel to be Russian - English vernacular)

HOWEVER, I would not mind at all if folks would use a Russian word on occasion to teach and/or learn more dang talk we can use!

LoL ... great story Jazzichka!

Yes, "How do you do?" has become rather archaic here now... and yeah, especially in the south.. I wonder how our equivalent of "How's yer mama an' nem?" weighs in on the translation scale... geez, I pity the FSU gals headed for the south.. need to learn yet another language.   ;D  I can just imagine those saucer sized eyes leading the WTF facial expression!  ;)

Home-y. . . I'm LOL here.  Yes, there's another language.  There is also an extreme connection with history, our heritage and the women that kept our families together - I have one Great Aunt in dementia - she's in Atlanta and owned the company that built all the bridges before 1965 or so.  What history. . . from biplanes to now.

How to find the gracious presence of such a woman. . . whatever country?

Why wouldn't I introduce this to a RW?  Ain't no trailers bro.
