International Phone Number Format
« on: August 08, 2007, 07:46:36 AM »
We've got a little project going on at work about data entry/search/search results display for international phone numbers. One big unanswered question is the format for cell phone numbers in various countries.

My thought was what better place to pose a question then right here at RWD.

So, could you give me some examples of the format used to call a cell phone in any country that you have experience with. This would only be calls from the U.S using the 011 international access code.

Example: Country code-XX
             City code-XXXX
             Carrier Code-XXXX
             Phone Number-XXX-XXXX

In many cases some of these numbers would not be needed but I'm looking for as many variations as possible.

Thanks in advance!

Ken,

You can actually get the numbering protocol that details not only all of the gobal formats but also ALL of the country and region codes (including carrier number allocations).

I've got it somewhere so I'll try to find it and send it to you...

Kuna

Oh, by the way, to get over the internal international dially code (011 in USA, 0011 in Oz) the standard is "+ [country code] [network prefix with any preceeding 0's removed] [service number]

Hey Kuna,

Thanks. We've got a lot of that information. What we're doing is trying to set up some standards for data entry and display. We're pretty well covered in all areas except how cell phones are dealt with. We've seen dozens of different treatments so I figured with the experience here we might see a different trend and/or format that we have not come across so far.

Any links or info are more than welcome!

Ken

"Ken,"

My lady uses the 'Bee line' cell co, and here is a link with their dialing prefixes. The page itsself is meant to send sms's, but the principal is the same.
