The good news is the fact they caught this guy.  At least he won't be filling up that chess board of his in the future.  Must be rough for the families, but hopefully they will get their justice.

This Russian guy was responsible for only 19 murders but he's real sick. His mom had lured some girls to their apartment where he beat and raped them. Sometimes he or his dog would kill the girls, one of them his own girlfriend. Then his mom would end up cooking some of the victims for dinner.

I've been tracking a series of murders (and the investigations) in Dnepropetrovsk where three 19 year old killers had murdered 19 people in a period of approximately 3 weeks (ending on July 24).

I haven't seen any international coverage and no national coverage even within Ukraine and there are only one or two local sources that are carrying the story.

Two out of the three have been charged but investigations into the third are dragging on.  The rumours on the street is that he is the nephew of a senior Dnepr politician and they are trying to cover up his involvement.

They targeted no specific demographic. Young women, homeless people, a middle aged couple and a 21 yr old soldier were all eventual victims. The also spread the geography of the attacks across the city so as to not draw attention to one area.

The sick thing is not just the murders...  but the motivation for them.  It's been reported that they video taped the murders (done with hammers to make the victims unrecognisable) because they believed they could get rich by selling the tapes over the Internet.

I'm writing a document not abut the crimes...  but the emotional effects of the citizens... perhaps crime and personal security is also a factor for some women who seek a foreign marriage??? I know My Girl was very frightened during this period and simply refused to go outside of her apartment at night.

My observation is that crime against women by strangers is relatively low in Ukraine.
In Kiev it is quite common for young and attractively dressed women to take metro late at night and also they don't think nothing of hailing a passing car and getting in with a strange young man to take a life (for a payment to the man of course). I don' think women and girls would attempt such things in most of Western countries.
