What to do with a 7 years old boy in Kiev (and his mother) ?
« on: September 02, 2007, 05:46:01 AM »
Hello,

I will fly back to Kiev next october, half time work/ personal, I am wondering where we can go/do with the son of my girlfriend (circus and zoo done last time). This will be just for one day ... She is not from Kiev and we are flying to Kharkov after (only both of us, son will stay with babushka). It seems to me there is an aquapark in Kiev ?  No infos (or url links) about activities at the chaika airport ?

Any suggestion is welcome.

Thanks

Yes you can all to to Hydropark on the island in the middle of the river.

There is a crane for bungee jumping if you want to try :)

There is a free open gym and free facilities to play tennis, basketball etc.
A football (soccar stadium) that may have a game on, several rides for children although I am not sure if there are any water rides.
Also the beach.

Hydropark and Pirogovo will be a good places for family rest. Pirogovo is an ethnic museum under the open sky, and children like this plase very much. Hydropark is an island for recreation activity with a lot stuff for children. If you are planing to go to a restaurant and take child with you I would reccomend "Vagon Restaurant" on Krasnoarmeiskoi street (not my favorite at all, but many people like it and boy will be happy). This restaurant has really very nice design, inside it looks as  a train, there is a moving moving rails in a bar, so barmen puts your drinks on it and they are moving to you, etc. And by the way there is a big toy store just near this restaurant. Good luck!

If you like indoor ice skating, there is a newer ice rink in Kiev in one of the newer malls. It's not near the center, but quite a distance. Taxi drivers know where this is. It's a really nice ice rink, and costs about $5 per hour to skate per person including skates. They also have large bowling alley inside this mall too, so you can try both without breaking the bank.

Name of mall mentioned by wxman is "Karavan", address - 9 Lugovaia Str (obolon district), as well there is indoor ice skating in the central Kiev area (Pechersk) near the Kievo Pecherskaia Lavra (main tourist place in Kiev) and  the Park of Glory (park Slavy) in the same building were is ice skating there is one of the most expensive Kiev restaurant "Belveder", but on my opinion food is not very tasty.

Thanks all for infos, we will probably choose more the bowling alley than ice skating, she does not know how to skate and her son just start to learn... we are not going to break some bones the first day of our trip :)

We will be alone during the next week, so these two days will be really for her son.

Nobody has tried Chaika airport and all activities there ?

wxman, you are welcome ;) For me it's quite  difficult to keep in memory names of different locations in foreign countries. I live in  US one month, but it's still difficult for me to find righ way to our neighborhood, everything seems so simillar  :-\ so I will be glad to assist you guys with Kiev locations.

"Chaika" is a sport complex for  auto racing, carting, they also have parachute jumping and  very -very rarely  they arrange some music events there, but parachute jumping is nor right activity for you, if you are not going to break your  bones. By the way people who tried jumping there told that this place is  not secure.
Instead you may go to "Ranch Bolivar", it's a big recreation club not far from Kiev, they have  quadracycles,  horses for riding (pony for children),pinball, fishing, pool, good  restaurant etc. but it's quite expencive place and it's necessary to  reserve places there by phone.
