Green Card Interview Advice?
« on: October 03, 2007, 03:34:36 AM »
Hi folks,
N. received her approved AP papers on the 20th of last month; along with a notice that her greencard interview was scheduled for Nov. 14 (4 months exactly since we filed the papers). Monday we received a notice that her EAD card was approved and mailed.
Since these two documents were approved, can we relax a little as far as the interview goes----or is Murphy still subject to showing up as well?

I have been checking the posts over on VJ; and the common thread seems to be the more documentation you bring to the interview, the shorter the actual questions and the less likely any of your paperwork will be looked at.
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.

aikorob,

We showed up with the following joint documentation with both names on it:

Life Insurance
Health Insurance
Auto Insurance
Joint Bank Account
Utility Bills
2 Credit Cards
Wedding photos at the Local Orthodox Church

The USCIS officer, a woman, was more interested in the wedding photos than anything else.

Good luck

Your list is pretty much what we have assembled already.
The glaring exception is allmost no photos of us together---usually one or the other is behind the camera. We hope to remedy this in the time before the interview--I have a company picnic coming up as well as visits to various family members.
There are NO photos of the wedding---N. did not want any ceremony at all---just "register the papers"; so we went down to the judge's office.

Rob, my wife and I bought copies of all submitted paperwork, all our NAOs from USCIS, her SS card, passport, EAD card, and AP document. Of course if you bring a mountain of documents you can guarantee that none will be required!

My advice would simply be to bring all your docs, arrive early, and relax.

Maybe it was due to our interview location (Newark, NJ), but we were the only couple in the waiting room who didn't have a lawyer. After hearing lawyers prepping their less-than-honest clients for their interviews and struggling to get them to agree on such basic details as when they first met, my wife nervously asked me, "should we tell the truth about everything?" Anyway, maybe I'm full of it, but the guy who interviewed us seemed so relieved that our case was so uncomplicated that he'd begun stamping her docs even before he began asking us 3-4 questions (where did you get married? what date?) The interview was over in less than five minutes.

Good luck and try not to worry about it, it will be a breeze.

Green Card Approved

N's green card was approved yesterday!
I want to thank everyone on the forum for their patience and understanding for all of the dumb questions I've asked--the advice paid off.
The interview itself was anticlimactic; we arrived about 25 minutes early and checked in. Before we could even sit down, the case officer came out and called us back. He had our file--about 1" thick-- open on his desk and refereed to it as he asked questions. The biggest thing he focused on was the fact that she had no wedding band (her choice). Total time was about 20 minutes---told us congratulations, took her EAD card, and said her green card should arrive in 4-6 weeks
