I need terms of endearment that one can use with a male friend.

In what language ?
We have a link in the RWDpedia (http://www.russianwomendiscussion.com/mwiki/index.php?title=Russian_Terms_of_Endearment) for "Russian Terms of Endearment" leading to http://www.meighan.net/alexander/, but it's mostly for female friends, although some phrases may work both ways.

Moya dorogoi  said either way, Dorogoi moy
my sweetheart or my darling in male tense.  Female tense add an "a" dorogaya moya, Miliya moya, "my sweet"  drop the "a" for male
