Why not take the train for the 200 mile trip?  No. 096 to Donesk leaves Odessa and 2:39 PM and stops in Kirovograd at 8:59PM...cost about $10.. you can buy your ticket at the Odessa train station... They have a "Service Center" north of the platform that caters to foreigners..adds a few dollars to the cost but short if any wait for service and they speak English if that helps.
