JB,

I can already see I'll have to keep my eyes open for another job in the not too distant future. Too many years here and I'll end up like the Rasputin!

There has to be a way Carnival could just let the wives stay on the boat for countries they need a visa.  For all it is worth, AP never has been a problem for us.  BCINS is eager to take our money and it has always arrived within 90 days.

Turbo, I will soon be on the second trip to Hawaii with my wife.  Unfortunately, Florida (greater Miami / Ft. Lauderdale area) did not do it for her.  For some reason Hawaii was a wow.  Do a time share if you can.  Time shares give you a really good space for the money ie. they will let you try their resort once.  When I went to Oahu we stayed at the Hilton right on Waikiki - payed much less than the hotel on a time share trial for a week.  This trip I'll be staying at a hotel, but work is paying for the hotel and my way due to a conference.  I just have to pay for the travel for wife and child.  Anyway, I would not recommend buying any of the time shares out there now, but if that is in your plans definitely buy one second hand.  Check out redbook.  They will get you in the right direction.  Check the following links.  They are good travel sites for getting more bang for your buck with USA standard accomodations etc.

Thanks Bruce,  Hawaii is one of the two states I have never been to but it is one of the strong contenders for a honeymoon location.   Thanks for the tips.   I am sure everyone will find them useful.

My Russian wife and I went on a Carribean cruise (Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, Grand Cayman) via Royal Carribean and had no problems with visas.  The cruise ships have a special arrangment and visas are not necessary.  She entered the U.S. again with Advance Parole (pending AOS).

Doc Woody I believe also went on a Carribean cruise with no visa issues.

Not sure what Carnival requires, but RCCL Western Carribean was no problem.

The Advance Parole IS a single entry document.  It is designed to allow the FSU citizen to travel home to Russia or Ukraine during the AOS process, it is not a blanket permission to travel the world for an indefinite period of time.  You get a single sheet of paper which is used for each trip, and you have to request additional AP's if you intend to make more than one trip during the AOS process.

'taint the way you think.

I hate to disagree with you jb, but these days, this information is just flat out wrong  :-\
AP is issued as a 3 page MULTIPLE ENTRY document that is good for one calender year from date of issuance. You could conceivably leave and re-enter the country  fifty times during the year without any effect on it's validity. (I have fought and won this battle with immigration officers at Dulles who tried to tell my wife otherwise!). You are required to give a reason for your primary request when filing the application, but this does not preclude you from taking addition trips throughout the year long validity period. You are also required to state the terms of your elegibility for AP, which for us looked like this when filing for Liliya's 4 TH advance parole:
Quote

To whom it may concern,

In response to part 7 of the I-131 application for Advance Parole:

I qualify due to the fact that I was issued a K-1 visa at the Moscow Embassy on August 6 2003, entered the USA on August 20 2003, married November 3 2003 (within 90 days of entry as required by my visa) and filed for Adjustment of Status on December 18 2003. My Adjustment application is currently still pending. I have checked "More than one trip" in case of an unforeseen illness or death in the family at some point later in the year, so as not to need to re-apply.

Sincerely,

Liliya Xxxxxxx Xxxxxx

Hey spiffy4JC,
How about you letting us all know what the requirement are for our Russian/Ukrainian wives to go ashore in St. Martins?  I am specifically asking about RW/UW with perminant green cards but no USA passport.  Visas? yes or no?  Come on, you have a captive audience and many prospective customers here.

Aliens traveling to or from Area 51 are exempt from this policy…

haha

Carnival requires guests to provide proper travel documentation in order to travel. The documentation is required at embarkation and throughout the cruise and is the responsibility of the guest.

Due to the heightened level of security, Carnival is strictly enforcing this policy. Our policy states that any guest traveling without proper documentation will be denied boarding the ship and no refund will be provided.

On occasion, U.S Alien Residents may be asked to surrender their Alien Resident Card at time of check-in. This document will be returned upon completion of the immigration inspection at the time of debarkation.

U.S Alien Residents must contact the appropriate Consulates, U.S Embassy and U.S Immigration office to inquire about necessary travel documentation. Carnival assumes no responsibility for advising guests of Immigration requirements.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Cruises that visit Bermuda
U.S Alien Residents must present their valid, unexpired Alien Resident Card in addition to their birth certificate or Passport from country of origin.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Cruises that visit Europe
Alien Residents are advised to check with their travel agent or appropriate government authority to determine the necessary documents. Certain foreign nationals will be required to obtain a Schengen Visa and/or Croatian Visa.

Roundtrip Europe: Guests must carry a valid passport from country of citizenship.
Trans-Atlantic sailings that disembark in the United States, the guest must carry a valid passport from country of citizenship and a valid, unexpired, Alien Resident Card.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Cruises that originate in Barbados on the Carnival Destiny
Alien Residents must contact the appropriate Consulates or Embassies to inquire about necessary travel documentation. Carnival assumes no responsibility for advising guests of Immigration requirements.

Travel Documentation Requirements
The following documentation is required in order to sail on ALL cruise departures, including Cruises-to-Nowhere.
Valid, Unexpired, Alien Resident Card with a Photo I.D.
Note: The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative does not pertain to U.S Alien Residents.
Photo I.D. Information (if not on the Alien Resident Card)
· A Photo I.D is required of all guests 16 years of age or older.
· A Photo I.D does NOT have to be state-issued but must show a clear picture of the guest with the corresponding name.
· Sources of Photo I.D:
v Driver's License
v Government issued identification card (city/state/federal)
v Student I.D
v Company I.D
IMPORTANT NOTE:
It is important that guest names on travel documents (Alien Resident Card, etc) and Photo I.D be identical to those on the cruise and airline tickets. In the event of a different name (name change), documentation supporting this change is required.

· Current, valid driver's license with a photo
· Government issued identification card with a photo (city/state/federal)
· Legal Name Change court document
· Marriage Certificate: original or copy
If a guest is on her honeymoon and a marriage certificate is not available, the name on the booking should read: maiden name followed by the married name; do NOT hyphenate the name.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Traveling with a Minor
When traveling with a minor and both parents or legal guardians are not cruising, we strongly recommend
bringing an original signed letter from the absent parents/legal guardians authorizing the minor to travel with
you since this will expedite processing by the Department of Homeland Security.
Please note that a notarized letter to this affect is required if disembarking and leaving the ship permanently
in Mexico, with children.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Disembarking in Mexico
To debark for more than 24 hours in Mexico, guests must have obtained a Mexican Tourist Card from either a travel agent or a Mexican Consulate prior to their departure.

Additionally, if disembarking and leaving the ship permanently with children, guests must have a notarized letter from any absent parent/legal guardian indicating permission to travel with the accompanying adult.

Legal,

Does this mean that we need a Schengen visa for Green Card holders?  It looks this way. Hopefully Derek will chime in on this subject.

We do really need to get the correct information to any visa related questions. I would "think" the cruise line would have some experience with this already.

What visa's do we need for Permanent Resident (Green Card Holders) passengers?

What forms do we need to fill out? (Please post them here as attachments)

What is/are the cost(s) associated with these visas?

What is the time frame needed to get the visa in hand before the October 14th cut off date?

I don't know about others but if I am going to be filling out and paying for a variety of visas for this I'll be strongly evaluating the trip. After going through all the crap we have gone through already with the government I am near my limit for dealing with more Red Tape.

Hello,
Thank you all for your great questions regarding this cruis
Legal has posted the information I emailed him regarding the requirements for Green card- holding guests. A USA Passport is not necessary. Simply bring the documents requested for boarding. The US resident (usually the gentleman) is recommended to bring a US passport. If one is not readily avaiable, gentleman should bring a birth certificate and driver's license or photo id. Passports (as required by the WHTI) are not needed by anyone until at least June 1, 2008.  This ruling does not affect resident aliens or green card holders. Any other questions please let me know, or for elaboration on this information just post or email me for a quicker response,  and I'll be happy to answer.
Bon Voyage!

Whatever happened with this cruise?   Who actually ended up going and what did the green card holders end up doing?  Did you end up getting Schengen visas for your wives?

Bruce,
Lena and I went as well as Robert and Olga.  It was a lot of fun.  First class ship and cabin.  The ship was loaded with Eastern European crew and other couples.

A cruise like this is a perfect venue for a group of RWD members to participate.  You have dinners and entertainment on board and yet you can also have your private time too.  It was too bad that more people didn't go, but there is always next year
