Garmin GPS with Ukraine, Europe and US maps and more
« on: February 13, 2008, 11:09:54 PM »
Hi all,

I am considering selling my GPS. It is a Garmin Nuvi 360. This is a very nice device that has worked well for me. I bought an FM traffic receiver for it. It will help you route around traffic jams in the US and Europe. I paid about $120 for it. It also has Bluetooth so you can use it as a hands free speaker phone in the car or elsewhere. You can also dial contacts up directly from the GPS or even a restaurant if it is listed in the POIs (points of interest).

It bought and loaded the European maps on the device. I paid $300 for those maps alone. I just bought the brand new 2008 map update for the US cities and highways. It is still in its wrapper and I paid $90 for it. I just bought a brand new mount and power adapter for it. Nuvis had an issue with the mount being overly aggressive when sticking to the windshield and mine did. I tired of it and bought the newest model for it.

As mentioned I have the latest version of the Ukrainian maps. This software is the ONLY software for a handheld GPS that offers turn by turn routing in Ukraine. It will do route to addresses in most of the major cities. It has an English interface. All maps are legal and not pirated versions. I also have a leather case for it. I almost forgot, it even has the language module which is like a phrase guide which helps in languages such as German, Spanish, Italian and a few others as well. It has both the English and the other language pair.

This device has been well taken care of an absolutely no performance issues ever. It has the latest version of the software for the device already updated and loaded. Cosmetically it is in excellent condition except for one tiny little nick on the edge of its flip-up antenna. I have a small fortune invested in it but I am considering reasonable offers. The Ukrainian software alone was about $160 and it paid for itself literally in one trip. It found a few hotels for me not listed anywhere else that were about 1/3rd of the going rate in the areas I used it. In Kiev alone this saved me about $60/night.

I found this thing to be an incredibly useful tool while traveling anywhere. It is about the size of a pack of cigarettes and runs for about 5 hours on a battery charge if you turn down the brightness. It isn't a bad MP3 player and you can view photos on it if you have a SD card. I found it was really useful to show friends my photos on it rather than carrying around a computer. I could easily slip it into a shirt pocket when done yet easily whip it out when I needed to mark a location I wanted to come back to. This is the ultimate tool to take with you when going to the FSU or almost anywhere else you might travel.

For example you can mark each woman's apartment to navigate back later to. Just a few taps on the screen and you can enter her place as a favorite even if it doesn't show up on a road. About the only place it won't help you is in a subway tunnel. With a little work though you can download items from Google Maps and import them as waypoints to be directed to later.

You won't realize how useful it is until you use it. This would be a great device for any newbies. If you are worried about getting lost, this is what you need! Put in a 2GB SD card filled with MP3's and you can listen to the music and let it route you to the destination. It does have a headphone jack so you can listen privately to MP3's, audible books, and/or the routing instructions. I'd like to get somewhere in the neighborhood of $500 or best offer plus shipping. The Garmin 370 (which has Euro maps) but no Ukrainian maps, Garmin language guide or traffic receiver are going for about $480 or so.

If you are seriously interested, shoot me a PM and we can talk.
Take time to learn the language. Even a little can go a long ways...

Get off your butt and go! Don't make excuses why you can't do it, find a way to make it work! Always go with a backup plan too!!!
