Couple of questions
« on: April 27, 2008, 04:59:20 PM »
First, I want to say hello and that I am excited to start this process.  I have not signed up for any service yet.    This post is the first real thing I've done and I think this is a great place to start.

My main question is about race.  People tend to prefer sticking with there own kind.  I think women are beautiful of all colors and backgrounds.  I am latino and consider myself an attractive guy.  I know, however, some cultures look down on interracial dating.  What has been some of your experiences with this issue?  Or is it even an issue?  Might it actually be a plus?  Anna Kournikova seems to like the latin thing.

I know race shouldn't be an issue but at times it is.

Also, my parents are from Mexico and my parents values seem to be lost today.  I have dated almost exclusively Caucasian women.  However, I was hooking up with this hottie from Mexico.  She was the closest thing to have old school values, that I've dated.  Are Russian women like this as well?

I'm sorry if these questions are dumb.  This is my first time taking this step seriously.

I'd appreciate any feed back, suggested links or suggestions for a new guy.

Thanks!

Welcome here, and to start thing off, read as much as you can, do not forget the FAQ and wiki sections.
Regarding race, I doubt that RW would see a Latino as a very different race from a European or other American. The main thing is that you are stable. You will probably find the old school values you are looking for, although women are women anywhere.

Good luck in your search.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

Not always but can be. Always use your big head instead of your little one when figuring out women.

I met a couple from New Jersey.  He was Latino, and she was a RW he brought here on a fiance visa.  So yes, it can happen.

Just don't do what I did, pose for a picture with a bunch of Russians.  I am an Arab, living in New York.

Can you pick the Arab out of this photo?  You get the idea.

Russian culture is different than your Latino culture, my Arabic culture, or our American culture.  You need to learn something about it, if for no other reason to show her that you respect it.  There are good reads here on this site.  Elena has some good stuff too, but she will charge you a couple of bucks for the better stuff.

Good luck to you.

The same holds true whether you are white, Black, Latino, Arab or whatever. Your success at dating in the FSU will pretty much reflect your dating success anywhere else.  The caveat to this is that there is generally less tolerance for interracial dating in the FSU than in the US, so if you think your chances of finding a Caucasian mate in the FSU are better than your chances in the US, you wil be sorely disappointed

Some of the world's most beautiful and sexy women are from Colombia, Venezuela, Peru.. Why go with RW?  Gosh! If I were Latino there's no doubt in my mind where I'd be looking if not in my own back yard here in Alta California.

I agree, which is why I brought up this same idea in a roundabout way by suggesting that you not pose for a picture with a bunch of Russians.  The one I posed for, as you can see, drew attention to the racial divide.  It is not a killer, just something that does not serve your interests to draw attention to.

Al,

I think it's good to overstate, rather than understate, any potential snag that could adversely affect a relationship.  Many women in FSU, and especially their families associate Arabs with Muslims which they absolutely abhor almost with out exception.

My first K-1's daughter was dating a Jordanian, Muslim med student in Depr.  Due to the fact that he treated her like a piece of property and was disrespectful to the mother (being a woman) she forbid her daughter from seeing him.  Unfortunately she hid the fact that she continued to see him until it was revealed she was on drugs and guess who introduced her to it for his own amusement?

FSU has had many negative impressions made upon them by middle- eastern students and immigrants.  It's a tough row to hoe but it can be done with patience and upfront disclosure to save yourself some time.

Ronnie,

Your K-1's daughter's boyfriend problem seemed to be more about his conduct than his race.  I know all about the women-as-property mindset of Arabs, since I was raised in an Arabic household and had grandparents and my godfather who were direct immigrants from the Middle East.  But I reject those thoughts as nonsense and am all for full equality, something I preached long before it became a politically correct idea.

I always make it a point to tell the RW that I am an Arab, up front, that I am not a terrorist and in fact lost a friend to September 11 (a NYC firefighter), and that I reject the Arabic notion of women-as-property as nonsense.  Some RW then go away, but most of them stick around and give no further thought to the racial issue.

And let me tell you, we are not very popular around New York either, especially after 9/11, despite the large numbers of us that are here.  In fact I have had more problems with AW over my race than I ever had with RW.

Yes, you can overcome the pre-judging if given the chance.  There's just a number of them who won't give that chance...the great thing about FSU, it's so easy to just say, "next!"  Sooner or later, the right one comes along.
