Americans are being turned away without visa in Ukraine!

I just recieved this letter from an American who was turned away by airline without a visa. Here is what he wrote me today! Damn this mess! He was in London when he went to apply at Ukraine embassy. He is an American with an American passport.

Basically the Ukrainian embassy in London misinformed me. They told me
I was covered under this new visa regime for American citizens
(http://www.ukraineinfo.us/consular/visas.html), which was incorrect.
This regime only applies to Americans who have visited the Ukraine in
the past 6 months, so unless this is the case YOU WILL NEED A VISA. I
heard from the airline who had to deal with me after not letting me
board my connecting flight in Vienna as well as other American friends
who are trying to visit Ukraine that many of the embassies are giving
out incorrect information about this visa regime. Do not believe the
embassy if they tell you you don't need one. Make sure you have a visa
or you will not be allowed to fly. Also, apply as early as possible in
case they give you a hassle. Good luck.

Maybe it's better to fly directly from JFK to Kiev on Urkainan airline company?  It seems some people are getting into Ukraine without a visa and here is ONE case where they were turned back...?

The system "without visa" with ukrainian airline was not really without... in reality, you was using the VIP system and was needed to pay the visa at  airport...

I have consult the previous site who was with so service again and it seem that these method don't exist anymore...

It was not Ukrainian customs that denied him entry. It was Austrian airlines. Other airlines such as KLM, Ukraine airlines, etc, are allowing people to enter without visa. This happened over 2 weeks ago in the middle of July after talking the person some more. So certain airlines are confused, while others are not. It is best to check with each airline first.

Ukrainian offcials at customs are not turning Americans away. They are allowing people to enter without visa, even if their last vist was more than 6 months ago, or have never visited. The english translation is being followed literally by some airlines (Austrian), while others are now using the translation that states no visa is needed if stay is less than 90 days in a 6 month period. My advice is to stay away from Austrian airlines. I talked to KLM today, and they told me I will have no problem entering Ukraine, even though my last visit was more than 6 months ago. Their partner airline (Ukrainian airlines) flies the leg from Amsterdam to Kiev, and the agent told me that they are not preventing Americans from boarding plane without visa, or those whose last visit was more than 6 months ago. Apparently Austrian airlines can't get it's act together. When the official Ukrainian airlines are allowing Americans to board, it tells me that the original translation was wrong, and no previous visa is neccessary, etc.

Maybe Dan, or more specialy his wife can help us... on the other topic, i have previously publish the original ukrainian text... all these who have ukrainian wife can ask what they understand really from these text...

Seriously, they (Ukraine officials) are letting American's in without visas.
