Correct! They do get a lot of info, but it is most often that which shows us in a bad light or denigrates in some manner.  I have had friends (there) think we are all in serious danger from floods (etc. ...) from reports they see in Russian media.  This is Texas, floods are Mississippi River in Ohio basin.  Its not just a failure of geographical knowledge, it is the tone of the reports.

"The sky is falling,  the sky is falling..."

BF: Excellent and fair analysis (IMHO)

Hmm, good point - I noticed the Russian media are very hot on picking up on natural disasters. My wife thought that the UK news was VERY depressing   - lots of stories about murders -far less often reported on Russian news.

When she is away, and watches HER news and I'm in the UK, she's frightened I'm going to be drowned in floods or mugged / knifed :-o..

I, too think Blue's Fairy gave a great overiew ..

My impression is that the attitude has been consistently bad since the bombing of Serbia,

Warning ...   :offtopic:

And understandably so. The fact that the US would take it upon itself (again under this wonderful "UN Banner") to go half way around the world and bomb the Serbian Chrsitians, who have been in a life and death struggle with the Balkan Muslims for at least 800 years, this is just beyond my comprehension. Bill Clinton is a war criminal with blood on his hands for this. Serbia has NEVER done anything to the US. And as far as "atrocities" go, there have been atrocities and re-atrocities back and forth for so long, there's no way to know when it started, and there certainly isn't any way that some militaristic beligerant nation half way around the world (can you guess who?) should intervene, decide who we think the "good guys are" and use the most advance weapons in the world to bomb the others. .... Well, OK, that's enough ... sorry for the interruption .

Hey Jerry,

I don't post here much anymore, but my wife and I still remember flying to Moscow on the same flight out of JFK as you a year or two back.  You were headed for Tver and my family enjoyed your company very much during our brief time together.

Although others have stated their opinions on this thread, I wanted to tell you that in my opinion you are a class act and would make fine husband material for the right FSU woman. I urge you to continue your search even though you have had to endure some heartache along the way.  You struck me as a level headed and sincere guy and as others have also said - it is really somewhat of a numbers game and crapshoot out there. You know what to look for now.  You have paid your dues - use your hard-won knowledge and instincts to find the happiness that is waiting for you. Allot of this is pure luck in who you meet.

Safe way during your trip and good luck to you Jerry.

Hi Voyageur,

Good to hear from you, hope all is well.  Thank you for the kind words, I felt the same about y'all.  I hope that your family continues to do well, y'all are one of my motivations for continuing my search for a wife in general, either locally or abroad.  Stay in touch!

Regarding the post from Jack, well it's hardly worth discussing.  One must consider the source in such a situation and when it comes to Jack Bragg, well, 'nuff said.  I did meet you more than once Jack, but I suppose you don't remember or have conveniently forgotten.  The low-ball comments you made regarding my pursuit of one of the interpreters in Kevin's office is indicative of your true character, so I hope others are listening, especially those considering taking a trip with you.  For the record, more happened with Svetlana than I will reveal in an open forum like this and THAT was the reason I pursued her OFF AND ON for about a year (not 1.5 years).  And I didn't fall for "the first girl" I met in Tver, a city where the agencies simply won't use you anymore because of your unscrupulous business behavior.  But whatever, it's not worth my time to get into a tit-for-tat debate, you're simply not a worthy opponent.

I just wished you'd stop telling everyone you're from TEXAS, it's embarrasing.

Last post from me on this subject, I think Dan the administrator had the right idea in mind.  Sorry Dan, but I had to defend myself a bit, hope I haven't gotten myself in hot water with you over it...my last comments, promise.

I'll be heading back to Russia over Labor Day, don't know where yet, just FYI...

Thanks all.  Good luck to everyone, take care.

Best,

Jerry
