Russia Today WAS biased re Georgia - journo resigns over policy
« on: October 05, 2008, 06:03:29 AM »
I enjoy watching RU Today

when it started it was a bit unprofessional but it tried to give viewers a new perspective to Russia and it took us to interesting places and we met the many peoples that make up this vast nation.

Then I noticed that before the Presidential Elections, President Putin started appearing lots of times with "Mr M" .. when I was telling everyone that Sergey Ivanov was "the man" - but I guess his son's car crash and cover up "excluded" him as a suitable "replacement".

As the elections approached for President, "Mr M" got FAR more airtime than the other candidates - and a long time before the elections...

When Kosovo was gaining independence, RU Today ran "historical" programmes that were akin to akin to total bias - leaving out the fact that there were lots of initiatives - rather than the "US lead" rush to independence RU Today would have had us believe

Then came Georgia - and wild unsupported claims, one-sided reporting, failure to report Russian breaking of peace agrements, and non-questioning of how the S.Ossetians and Abkhazis had SO much arms, air support, etc.

We had satellite photos that were out of date, failure to report attacks on journalists, failure to report the presence of Ru troops in places the Russians denied being near...

Lest *I* am accused of "bias" .. I had been saying for ages that Georgia should let the regions go, in conjunction with Russia's recognition of Kosovo.

Now we can see for ourselves what I suspected.. I see that during the conflict one of RU Today's foreign journalist resigned - as his reports were being censored to meet the "official line" .

Where did I find this info?   Rossiyskaya Gazeta ..

I still watch RU Today.. but now what I see is taken with a larger than average pinch of salt .. and that is sad..
