Immigration of RW's parents
« on: October 21, 2008, 03:01:34 AM »
Can someone please tell me how difficult it is for a RW's parents to immigrate to the USA after she becomes a permanent resident, or if it's even possible?

US citizens can petition for their parents to emigrate; lawful permanent residents cannot.

you are in error for US immigration. Parents of naturalized US citizens have no waiting period. They are immediate relatives. That means immediately available. You must be referring to the 3 or 5 year requirement for naturalization which has no bearing here.

Which means that you can immediately apply for the visa.   The outcome is quite uncertain, though.

No, not at all. Can you spell slam dunk? what it means is that the petition does not fall into the family preference categories. These are IMMIGRANT visas. Petition goes straight through the NVC and on to the consulate. Interview is set and over they come. UNLESS there are reasons peculiar to these particular applicants that make them inadmissible- overstays, fraud, criminal activities, etc. Or lack of finances on the US end.
