My special interest is the luxembourgish language still spoken in America

Well, I'll admit, you've out foxed me there.. Are you referring to the Germanic language style spoken today by some of the more iosolated cultish groups, like the Amish?  Or perhaps, the Dutch inbred pacificist, we call the "Quakers", or the even more obscure, "Shakers"?  The Shakers, BTW, were the origin of the ever popular hymm named "Amazing Grace", it was their only, and everlasting, stamp on American religious culture.

I just returned from the site/link you provided, and I'm still a little confused,,, that looks like a site, like many others, that simply highlight our links to the old world.

American perhaps is unsual from other countries in that we are able to absorb many different cultures and build upon that diversity.  Rather than seperate and weaken us, it strengthens us because we are able to take the best of all worlds and reject the chaff.

Let me guess, in Luxemborg, you speak French, Flemmish, maybe Dutch, and maybe some German?  That'd be be pretty common for the area. In Wisconsin, where the site led me, all of those languages would have been fairly common two generations ago, as well as Swedish, Finnish, Norweigain, and maybe a smattering of Polish and Czech. Lot's of agricultural based immigrants settled in the area.

I love the cheese, best in the world,,, and more reasonably priced too.

French, Luxembourgish and German ( deutch )... no flamish or dutch...

More info : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxembourg

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is a small landlocked state in the north-west of continental Europe, bordered by France, Germany and Belgium. On a per capita basis, it is the wealthiest nation in the world. "

Hummmmm,,, that link didn't work for me...

However, what I gather you are talking about is similiar to the differences between Apache and Navajo, essentially the same languages, just different vocabulary, delivery, and accent.

Am I right?

Ok,, that worked.

Now you are splitting hairs, luxunborgian, high German, low German, throw in a bit of French, and you have a mish mash of dialect, same as Spanglish.  I now understand.

The oil in Saudi Arabia is propriety from the country... but the money stored in Luxembourg bank is mainly from other country...

Little Belgium people store money in Luxembourg ( in theorie, it is illegal )... so they don't pay tax on the interest given by the bank...

Cigarette, alcohol, benzine have more low tax in Luxemburg... go place for shopping...

Edit : When i was in Army, i have use the american PX ( US army shop )... very cheap and some modern material that we find in our shop only 6 month after... but now, i have no more access to these PX :(

Right now, my wife is studying for her first quiz on Monday -- for her class on preparing American tax returns.

I can guarantee that a few years ago, she NEVER thought she would be studying about American taxes... In ENGLISH, no less.

U lucky US b@st@rds!! Petrol was over a quid a litre a fortnight ago here in the Old Country. That's four pounds fifty a UK (bigger!) gallon and at the current exchange rate about 8 dollars a US (smaller!) gallon.

It's now back to about 90p a litre now - well cheap!

Regular leaded here would be about 135 bucks to fill up a 20 gallon tank.

That's why most here drive diesels which brings it down to about 110 bucks for 20 gallons but the mileage (30 mpg) for a full sized car here helps more than anything else.

All in all we probably pay more over here to fillerup but drive a bit cheaper if you consider only gas. In the end though insurance here is higher eating up even this meager difference.

I guess we are all just screwed in the end when we get behind the wheel.

RU 'go by legs' is getting more popular.
