Uncle Alexander
« on: November 23, 2008, 05:25:39 PM »
This past Friday, Liliya's Uncle Alexander (Sash) took two gold medals at the WPC World Championships for powerlifting, held in West Palm Beach, FL
He won the senior division and the overall for the 125kg catagory (yeah he's a big guy  ;)). Not bad for a man that's 59 yrs old and hailing from a tiny little town on the Volga river. We did not get the chance to see him compete, as his time slot was mid-day  :-\ But we did spend all afternoon and into the night with him yesterday, and had a great time. Of Course he also introduced us to the rest of the team - a very likable bunch of guys. Back in the early 90's he successfully defended the title "World's strongest man" for 2 seasons.

Personally, I don't follow the sport at all, but it was great to be able to spend time with him once again, and invite him into our home, as he did with me each time I visited Russia.

P.S. Heres a link to a VERY soviet sounding write up from the website of the company he works for when not competing:

I have seen some of these competitions. These guys are huge. More muscles in their wrist than I have in my entire body. Please extend my congratulations.

Jet,

You should contact Vince McMahon and get your wife's Uncle a job with the WWF (wrestling). No insult intended, but he looks like he could be a real serious dude.  :)
