To anyone who has married Ukrainian lady with children,

Can you tell me what type of permission (for either the USCIS or the Ukrainian Government) is needed from the father of a 15 year old boy?  I am gathering all the information necessary to file for our K1 visa and if she needs this for the embassy interview I want to get it place now.  One complication is that she tells me that the father lives in Canada now.  Another relevant fact is that her ex left her before his son was ever born and has never been in his son’s life at all.

Thank you for your help in advance

Is the father's name on the birth certificate?

No firsthand experience here, but I've understood that to bring over a Ukrainian child uncontested you
would need:

1) the father's death certificate  OR
2) his cooperation, up to and including participation in the interview  OR
3) termination of the father's parental rights by a judge.

If he's not listed on the birth certificate I would think you'd have an easier time with the issue at hand.

This story is not from my own personal experience, but from one of my neighbors.

Don't be surprised if the "father" decides he needs some money to let his "child" go.

My neighbor had to pay approximately $5000. US to a  Russian "father" for his "loss" of a beautiful little girl.

I don't know the complete details, but my neighbor paid.

BTW, little girl and Mom are doing well here in the USA.  :)
