My Mom was crying
« on: December 24, 2008, 02:53:14 PM »
Please understand Mom is not all together convinced that he is not my biological son to start with.  So it is pretty interesting, sometimes she is asking questions to make sure still I was never in Ukraine before.  I should also state for the record I live in Texas now and the rest of my Family lives in Boston.  My poor Fiance trying to understand Bostonian English is in of itself a post.  I speak with almost no Bostonian Accent.  Out and about catches me still, but then people just think I am from Canada not New England.

We were about the same height, hair color, and clown abilities I had at the same age.  Mom is calling, revenge is hers already.  He even has similar interests that I still do today after all those years.  I assure everyone it is not possible he is actually my biological son.  The side by side pictures are almost identical also.  Mom was quick to take them out and compare.

I really was not sure how this conversation was going to go.  He started with Privyet!  I told Mama that was hello and she said Privet back.  Kak Dela Babushka?  Oh boy! forgot to warn Mama what Kak meant before hand.  Mama says what?  I said that means how are you doing grandma.  Well then he goes to English when he hears grandma.

Mom is not one to cry, I can almost count on both hands how many times I can recall it.  She grew up in the inner city of Boston and had to fight to survive after her parents were killed at 12 Yo.

My Mom started to cry today, she wanted to wish them a Merry American Christmas Eve.  He said Hi, Grandma.  How are you?  I am fine?  Merry Christmas Grandma. How is her dog?  Then a version of Jingle Bells that was more of Jingle bells said over and over to the song.  It was priceless and he had been practicing to surprise me.  He took the chance to get the future Baba on his side it seems.

Well I thought I would share one of the firsts and that is the family accepting them with open arms now.  She even said we are going to have another Christmas when we visit after their arrival.

This was quite a turn compared to her being mad that I went to Ukraine last month this time instead of going home for Christmas.

Nice story Diplomacy.  Kids and Christmas bring out the good in people.

Have a safe and happy holiday!
Just stating my opinion!  You don't have to agree with it.

I agree with Enot - this is a choice narrative....and moves me to recall how my new family
never had the chance to meet either of my parents.

A child's innocence can wield such power....  nice post, Diplomacy.

Vaughn:
While they may not have met your parents in body, they did in spirit when they met and grew with you.  I am sure your your parents are proud as a peacock in the heavens of the all mighty architect.

Everyone else

I now know why the sudden jump to English.  He did not fully understand that he was talking to my Mom.  He heard me translating and he heard me say Mama to my Mama. When I said grandma was babushka he put 2 and 2 together.  He was expecting his Baba to be on the phone with me.

He is excited to have a dog, grandma, truck, boat, cats.  He is learning his English so that he can talk to my loyal hunting dog Lola so far.  I am going with what is working.  He is already an avid outdoors man.  He caught more fish then me this year.  He goes with Dadushka every chance he has.
