First week in Canada
« on: December 22, 2008, 07:23:40 AM »
It's now a little more than one week that my wife is in Canada. She has had a temporary visa and will stay with us (me and children) during one month, before waiting for her permanent residence.

In one week she already has had many faces of Canadian winter, from ice rain, two feet of snow and really cold wind (-27 celcius for her second day..).

She discovered shops very fast, her shoes were definitely not done for Canadian winter.
Adaptation was easy, we were 3 at the airport waiting for her, me, and my friends who are married since 6 years, she is Ukrainian, him Canadian. During the way back to home, the language used in the car was Russian :)

As I was working during this first week, she spent most of the time with her  and she start to know already more about shops in Montreal than me...

On the negative note, only one negative word when she has met the wife of one neighbor...but there are rude people everywhere...

This year will be the first year of 2 christmas...
Now we have 3 weeks of vacations...

Congratulations Docetae.

Be prepared for a lot more of this behavior from CW (Canadian Wives). Although I don't know the attitude of CW, I can speak for AW and several of them have been rude to my Marina. I believe it is jealousy. Most of these insults were hurled from fat cows.   GOB

Never has been an issue with me and my wife. Canadians in general take pride in their politeness, and in my experience would never say anything negative directly to a person under anything but extreme circumstances  ;) And my French-speaking friends who are women love my wife and the fact that she has picked up already a few French phrases.

Doc,

Glad to see you and your wife have crossed another threshold, I hope she'll be able to remain with you the entire time she's waiting for her permanent residence.

Then why have you attacked me in the past?  Must not be one of those "polite" Canadians.
Just stating my opinion!  You don't have to agree with it.

My dear Enot, if you only knew how hard I was biting my tongue at times (or perhaps it would be more appropriate to say slapping my fingers as I am typing) and how much effort I had to put into my posts to refrain from calling you a few nasty names in our exchanges.   It really took a lot of effort on my part to maintain a certain amount of civility with you even when being provoked  :rolleyes2:

I guess this means I was correct about you not being "polite" ... so I'm not sure why you implied you were.

Enot, where I come from it's considered in pretty poor taste and quite insulting to dump
on the carpet in what is obviously a happy milestone thread.

Doc - Congratulations! Nice that you have friends to help ease things along...
Merry Christmas to all of you!

Then why are you dumping Vaughn by bringing it up?  You must be one of those "polite" Canadians!

It is strange... I was writing there are rude people everywhere...it seems even in this thread...

Sadly, my wife will have to fly back to Ukraine mid january for her son (with Babushka now) and one time permanent visa process is started, it seems it is near impossible to get temporary visa.

Our plan and hope is to have finished everything for june.

Docetae

You know that you and your wife will face some hurdles. Sometimes when I find a speed bump in the road (that is supposed to slow you down) I just go faster, take the leap and enjoy the ride. I wish you and your family all the best. And the heck with the people who do not understand. You dont need them anyway.

Viking: But you still need to walk along the beach to find it.

Docetae,

Congratulations to you and your Wife and a Merry Western Christmas too!!
I hope that things are going well and she's enjoying the joie de vivre of Quebec culture :)
A shame she has to see Montreal in the winter, damn salty slush does a hell of a job on leather boots ;D
Then again, if the damp cold can be ignored, Montreal is without doubt the most beautiful city in the world when covered in a white blanket of snow :)) Alas, it fills the damn potholes nicely too :)
Sincerely.... enjoy, enjoy, enjoy  :couple:
