Privet and hello - new to the site!
« on: December 30, 2008, 10:42:38 PM »
Privet and hello,
New to the site after stumbling over it in cyberspace. Still not sure what country the site captures? Cyberspace, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Belarus, or Moldova? Perhaps all? My main interest is the former Soviet Union and I spend a lot of time in Ukraine with Kyiv having been my favorite city for the last few years. Would be interesting to learn where members on this site are home based. SB

I'm located in the United States (midwest). You'll find guys (and some married women) from the United States, Western Europe, Oceania, and several other places as well. Guys travel to plenty of countries as well. Russia and Ukraine being the most popular here. I went to Estonia and I bet if you search the net hard enough you can find trip reports and a little info on most countries. That might include Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Moldova, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Poland, Georgia, Kazakhstan, etc. Personally I suggest doing your own reseach and go where you want to go. If you want to meet Azerbaijani women (mix of albanian and turkic)travel to Baku (unlike other middle eastern countries most of these women are secular). Just throwing that out there to show you how much research I did before picking where I wanted to go.  8)

Charles Barkley: My only regret was that the bar didn't have a second floor.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like you ended up in Russia while I went for Ukraine instead  :). Some are saying that Ukrainian and Russian women are different, but I have not been able to figure out what that might be since both countries and cultures are so similar and with a long common history. I hear that Moldovian women are more diplomatic, Ukrainian women have strong opinions and can give you some arguments (tell me about it  ;)), then there are the Russian women who are really into compromising a lot. Well anyhow, they are all great. SB

SB,

All I can say is hit google maps, wikipedia, and other resources. The majority of people in Estonia are in fact Estonians which are a Finnic people. But you can find some russians, ukrainians, belarussians, finns, tatars, latvians, poles, lithuanians, etc in the country. So NO I did not end up in Russia.

I won't get into the ukrainian vs. russian debate because I'm basically interested in Estonia, Romania, and Bulgaria. I wouldn't suggest for you to get caught up in it too much either. You just threw out a bunch of generalizations but I have no idea the personality and character of the women you will meet in your future travels. I'm sure you can find a great woman in any country in eastern europe if you have yourself together and know what you are looking for (and how to go about it).

Thanks. Being a newbie I have a lot of postings to go through before I can think of a good restaurant unless there is a place with free WiFi and good red borsch with garlic bread.  :D SB

You know, it seems to me that I heard of a place that had good borsch, very reasonable prices and even a couple of locations with free wi-fi and comfortable facilities.  Maybe even well-placed for convenience.  Ah the name escapes me but I am sure it will come back to me any minute now.

Topofthekey,  Thanks for the update about Estonia. Interesting that you are focused on Estonia, Romania, and Bulgaria since they are quite different countries. You cover a wide span of Europe from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea. The people and culture are different also. As for Bulgaria, I would be careful and check out the State Departments travel warnings for that country before you make a trip. They are now a member of the EU but the country is suffering from high crime and corruption. Wish you good luck in your travels and stay safe. SB

Bulgarians an Russians are very close in more than one way.  ;) But actually I would be more careful with Romania, even if any reports are usually exaggerated.

the forum is dedicated to the FSU, which is already a very wide variety of countries and people.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)
