Renewing her Ukrainian Passport: Information needed
« on: January 05, 2008, 06:16:32 AM »
Marina's Ukrainian passport expires in six weeks.  She needs to renew it.

We are in Kiev now, but it's the holidays and we can't find any information at all.

Does anyone here have info?

Is there an office in Kiev you can go to for this?  Or Dnepr?   How long does it take?  Is there an expedite? (bribes)

It also states on the passport that it can be "extended."  Does anyone know anything about this?

Does anyone know a private company that assists in renewing passports?

Phone numbers or URLs or addresses would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

~ Si & Marina

Hey Si,

I think she needs to have it done in the town she is registered.  Nothing will be open until the 8th because of the holidays.  I wish you luck in this pursuit because I have a feeling they will be out of paper.  It took Sveta 2 months to get her new Ukrainian passport because they were always out of paper. We even offered a bribe which didn't matter.  When she renewed it before it took almost 2 years because of paper issues.  We ended up paying a bribe just so we could get her passport when paper became available.

Thanks, Thomas.  We heard a similar story from a friend of hers in Dnepr.  Out of the new style passport paper...

Is there an office of passports you apply to? Where did Sveta go?

Marina heard you must go the police station????

We will try that on Tuesday when offices open again.  I'm hoping for the extension of passport option, since it would not involve making a new passport with the new "paper."  And i would buy us some time.

This isn't going to be much help to you except as a possibility to rule out but...
I had done a fairly exhaustive search for passport service companies stateside during the summer, and while there are several places that offer this service for Russians in the US there were *zero* similar services for Ukrainian passport holders on this side of the pond.  :-\

Yeah, we found the same, Jet.  Lots that offer Russian passport services, zero for Ukraine.

So we will search here in Ukraine.   We do know one agency in Dnerp that does this, but they are not answering their phone.  Guess they are on Holiday, after all, this is Christmas Eve!

The problem is that the agency we are going to call took two months to get a passport for a friend of Marina's.   We will ask them about expedite service.

Was wondering if there has been any changes on getting a Ukrainian passport renewed [possibly from the embassy] in the past year....

I don't know about renewing a passport, but our daughter got a new one about a month ago.  She went to the local OVIR office, completed the paperwork and had her passport in hand 9 days later.  There was a small fee for expedited service (not a bribe).  As I recall, it was 50 hrv.
