That is something everyone wonders about till they have done it a time or two.  If you click reply just like you did and you look below the box where you type the messge you will see a blank box and next to it will be a button that says browse.  Just click browse and find the picture file you want to upload and you will have the job done.

and i was using the insert image button and did not even see the browse...  DOH!
