The Consumer Analysis Group carried out a study that found that five million people lie about their jobs to appear more exciting. Women were most impressed by firemen, doctors and pilots, men by air hostesses, nurses and teachers, so who can blame the poor accountant, labourer or civil servant who tells a porkie?

LMAO !!  Thinking back to when we met - Elvira and I were more impressed with one another's honesty
and self-image than any realization that the persons we each portrayed electronically were accurate.
Having to portray an imaginary image is quite deceitful in itself, so I'm not surprised the guy was stripped
of his purchased medals and reputation...

Still, the question: did I even once embellish anything to impress her? I can honestly say Nyet and I'd
pass the polygraph...

I remember that years ago, the Queen knighted the Beatles and gave them a bunch of English valor and hero medals and a lot of British vets  ceremoniously threw their's into the Thames as a protest citing that ..if that is all they [medals] meant, then to hell with it.

In 1965, Paul McCartney and the other Beatles were honored by Queen Elizabeth with an MBE (Member of British Empire) medal. Afterward they confessed that they had smoked marijuana in the Buckingham Palace bathroom just before the ceremony. An act of frontal offense to the honor they would so shortly receive. The British people responded with shock and protest.
