I just had to share....
I remember reading here that being able to talk on the phone with a FSUW/RU was one of the ways to help "filter" potential scammers. This was very true, as a few months back I was corresponding with a RW who, when I asked about calling her, had an unfortunate mishap with her cell phone in the bath tub. Then went on to tell me her phone plan didn't allow international calls, etc. I eventually found her on several anti-scam sites, and she was well known.
Well, I've again been corresponding with a couple of ladies, and asked all three about talking on the phone. Wouldn't you know it, one of them had an unfortunate mishap with the cell phone in the bath!

Is there a lot of cell phone / shower incidents in the FSU? LOL I mean 5 people I've offered to call, and 2 of them had the same "problem"!
The first one didn't surprise me, as even her letters seemed a bit off (it's funny how, even after a short time doing this, you do learn to smell the scam), but this second one surprised me. Much more personal (family photos, etc). I'm not going to write her off completely, but I am certainly going to keep my guard up(as I guess you should w/ any new correspondence).
So I guess besides offering what (to me) is a little Monday morning humor, I'd echo the sentiments of the more experienced folks here who have already said it. The phone call can be a good first filter...
