How long from NOA2 to Interview?
« on: January 25, 2009, 06:25:06 PM »
I finally received notice of NOA2 on our K-1 a couple of days ago (just 2 months after filing!) and that they were sending our package off to the Consulate in Moscow.  I know about VJ and the timelines over there, but I was wondering what the experiences of RWD members have been.  How long should we expect it to take now before she will be given an interview date?

These days, precious few seem to post their timelines as fresh information. But if we are to believe
visapro.com this is what they offer in terms of time...

The approved I-129F Petition is forwarded to the appropriate U.S. Embassy and the petitioner is notified of the petition approval by the USCIS. Approved petitions for all fiancées residing in Russia and Turkmenistan are forwarded to the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. It usually takes approximately 6-8 weeks for the petition to reach the U.S. embassy in Moscow.

As soon as the U.S. Embassy Moscow receives the Petition, a computer name check is generated. The name check takes about 16 working days. After the name check clears, the Embassy in Moscow can schedule the applicant for an interview. Currently, the period between receiving the Petition and scheduling the interview usually is 4-6 weeks. Upon receipt of the approved I-129F petition, the U.S. Embassy Moscow sends a letter and information sheet to the Beneficiary (fiancée) outlining the steps to be taken to apply for the fiancée visa.

Online Immigrant Visa Appointment Schedule Information on the Embassy’s website makes it possible to obtain information regarding interview dates for those already scheduled. The information can be also received by contacting the Embassy Visa Information Service.

Hope this helps.    Vaughn

I forget the exact times.  All I recall is that our case moved somewhat faster than the VJ reported times.  Not much, a week or so.

Your so lucky! Let me guess, you filed at the California service center? We filed a month and a half before you and nothing so far.  Vermont service center  :(

Yes, I'm extremely lucky and yes I filed at CSC.  I've been reading some of the posts over on VJ, and it seems like there are a lot of people waiting 6 months+ just to get their NOA2.   :(

Yeah, seems like I live on that site now. I check it to see who has been approved, my po box everyday, and my status on the USCIS website. It will drive you nuts after awhile. I hope it doesn't take over 6 months.  :'(

I'm happy for you because I know it must feel wonderful.

Was your package received by the embassy yet? My data is old since I filed a few years ago, but I got my NAO2 three weeks after NAO1, then about a week later I phoned the service center and was told that my file had been transmitted electronically and via pouch to Moscow. The wait from the time the file was received by the embassy in Moscow to the interview was two months, as they intentionally leave a time cushion so that your fiancee can get her stuff together (medical, police report, etc.). If you email the embassy they'll give you an interview date if it's not posted on their website.

No.  I haven't received a notice that it's been received by the embassy yet.  But I'm starting to get a good idea from the posts on what we're looking at.  Thanks everyone.

Roykirk,

Without wanting to redirect the thread, what are you both doing to bide your time.

This was a busy period for us. She was preparing to exit her former life, and I was
over here preparing to receive two new people into our family. Knowing you a bit from
your posts, I assume you're on top of the game...

Roykirk,

If I remember correctly, you won't get a notice that your package has been sent by the service center or received by the embassy, you have to sleuth it out yourself. We received no official notices until my wife received her appointment invitation and instructions about three weeks after the package was sent from the VSC.

We received our NOA2 on 1/9 and I emailed the embassy in Moscow yesterday to see if they received our case. They emailed me this morning telling me they received our case and her interview is set for 3/24.

On-Line Appointment Information

The Consular Section is pleased to announce the availability of online information regarding scheduled immigrant visa appointments.

Please note that in order to use this system, you must know the case number of your immigrant visa application. This number was provided to you when your petition was approved (i.e, MOS2002123456, SRC-12-345-67890). You can not use this system if your petition has not yet been approved. Please note that it takes USCIS and the National Visa Center several weeks to formally notify the Consular Section that a petition has been approved.

Appointment schedules are updated weekly at 8:00 a.m. Monday, Moscow time.

Important: Use your browser's search function to find your case number.

In 2005 with my first fiancee visa petition, the Embassy never sent her an appointment invitation nor the package of documents to be completed.  We found out only by searching the on-line appointment schedule.  In 2007 with our second petition, everything went like clockwork with an invitation letter arriving from the Embassy one week after the appointment was posted on-line.

Sorry I was away from RWD for a while and forgot about this thread.  She's coming over here next week for a short vacation on her tourist visa, and expecting she'll probably have a package waiting for her when she gets back home, or shortly thereafter.  I just received notice Friday that our information is being sent to the embassy in Moscow.

Sorry I lost track of this thread and I see you already scheduled the interview but to answer the question for others; I'm not 100% sure when it got to the Embassy but + or _ a day or two it would be 5-6 days. I called the Embassy on Wednesday and the girl told me we just got her stuff. She called the call center on Friday and they didn't have her info yet. I called the Embassy again and they said it takes a couple of days for the info to get to the call center. She called again on Tuesday and was able to schedule the interview. They were scheduling them as soon as the following week.
