I found this forum while searching for information on registering a marriage in Uzbekistan. Does anyone have any experience with registering a marriage in Uzbekistan? My situation is a little different because I won't be going through the K-1 process.... I've been living and working in the middle east on and off for the last 8 years so I have the ability to 'sponsor' my fiance to live with me. I visited the US embassy in Tashkent on my last trip and they provided information on the process for registering a marriage at the Zags in Uzbekistan.
I've traveled over 10 times to the Uzbekistan and FSU nations over the last couple years while dating my fiance so I've grown to accept that corruption and bribes are just part of every day life. This is especially especially true in Uzbekistan where the average salary is less than $200/mo. However, I've become annoyed with the lack of a documented process for registering a marriage in Uzbekistan. My fiance has visited the Zags in Tashkent multiple times the last couple months to begin the process only to find out that they now require more and more documents/authentication from the US or the US Embassy in Tashkent.

I am traveling to Tashkent next month with the goal of completing the marriage certificate at Zags but things just aren't looking good.... My fiance says that they probably just want a large bribe because they know I will eventually become frustrated and just pay whatever they want.
Does anyone have any experience with Zags in Uzbekistan or have any advice? I'm beginning to think that just going the K-1 route would have been easier. :ohbrother:
