We won one with the goverment.
« on: March 31, 2009, 11:57:06 AM »
Had a hassle changing alyonas name on her SS card. We changed her first name from Olena to Alyona on the marriage document.

Got to the ss office and they said NO. I said show me the regulation where any name change on a marriage document was not a legal name change. She could not find the regulation, she bumped it up to national for a finding. Name was changed 2 days ago with out any thing else required.

Little problems like this - as perceived by others - aren't so little when you own them. I can
sense your relief, and congratulate both of you for standing your ground with an agency that
was less than friendly to my own spouse.

Way to GO, HiTech !

It seems that all names are attached to Kafkaian stories... When I married my wife, she was wearing the name of her previous husband, she did it because she wanted to have the same name than her son. Now she wants to have my name but in Quebec, the woman in the couple keep her birth name. But...on our wedding certificate, her previous name is the one of her ex...and they used this document for her identity...

Now about her first name..My wife is born in USSR, her first name is Anna. But on Ukrainian document, Anna has been translated to Ganna (ukrainian translation of Anna) , so the official name of my wife in Quebec will be Ganna name_of_her_ex !

We have choosed to do nothing first and we will start official name change when she will be in Canada..
Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes Oscar Wilde
