Hello,

My wife worked as translator for a friend of her visited by a man from Alabama.
She told me about the meeting and all was ok except two things:

- The man was speaking loud, I can tell you that most of the women hate this ...
- He was complimenting my wife and not his date !!! So if you go for a date, don't start to flirt with a married woman in front of your potential fiancee...(even if her 6ft6 husband is not close   ) .

talking loud is an important point.. due to 20+ years in the woodshop I dont hear so good.. I sometimes talk loud without realizing it.. I have been called on it several times with my GF and finally explained to her I am not doing it on purpose.. she is understanding about it now but if I get loud she will shhh me.

I also noticed a lot of Russian conversation seems to take place at barely above a whisper.. damn its hard enough to understand Russian.. why cant people just speak up?

When you live in a building where you hear the neighbours fart, you will also learn not to speak too loud.

First it is bad manners to talk and laugh loud in public areas, second a privet conversation is a privet conversation. Honestly I'm just annoyed when some people, especially in cafes or restaurants, talk about their life details loud.

I can understand that Olga.. I feel the same annoyance.  I remember once hosting a family dinner at a very popular Italian place in SF.. the table next to us was so loud they really ruined our meal..
