Joe, some will say yay.. others will say nay.. jury is really out.  Certainly some guys have gotten married using them.  A lot more have ended up disappointed.

Perhaps you can elaborate on your question so we can help clarify any issues you might be having.

Thanks for the reply.

I have recently started correspondence with a woman in Ukraine.  Common warnings on this forum seem to be "watch out for scammers" or, "are you really communicating with woman whose picture you see or someone at the agency?"  I'm trying to avoid mistakes like that before going too far down the path, so I'm wondering about the ethics of the agency.

My sense is that the communications so far are genuine, but a pro-scammer might make mince meat of me.  Thanks again for any advice...

AFA has some company run offices and some affiliate agencies.  The first thing to do would be to call customer service and verify if the lady you are corresponding with is with a company run office or an affiliate.  Company run would be good.. affiliate adds risk.

Secondly.. based on the ten commandments.. try to get her to communicate with you away from the agency as soon as possible.  Not sure how easy that is to do via AFA.. others might have more insight on that.

Thanks again Sculpto.  To divorce the agency should I direct her to an interpreter she can use?

depends on her english skill and her computer skill.. my GF was using an online translator when we first started chatting and I didn't even realize she didn't speak English.

if she doesn't speak English you will need help for phone calls.  Talk to Anastasia Ash on this forum.

Thanks Poker.  Ever win much?

When you did the AFA tour did you correspond with anyone before the tour?  Are you still in the process these days, any recommends for other avenues?

PLP, have a look at our Scam Card (Scam Avoidance menu at left) for a few pointers ;).

Thanks Poker.  What language program are you using to learn Russian?  Lessons? Rosetta?  Something else?

I was a member of AFA for over 6 months and I tried communicating with women who had email accounts and women who did not. Their service for women who had email was satisfactory. The service for women who did not was terrible, IMHO. Their charges for letters and pictures, phone call translations, etc. is out of sight...$3.50 to attach each picture?  And if the lady sends you a bunch of pictures....you get the honor of paying $3.50 each just to open them!  One lady was sending me pictures of flower arrangements!
The other problem is that many of the girls without email accounts receive your letters by snail mail....it would take almost 2 weeks by the time her response arrived.
Finally, when I called Phoenix (their headquarters) about a problem I was having receiving a reply from a woman in UA when I was to leave in only a few days, I was treated with contempt and arrogance. I was cut off in the middle of a sentence and transfered to some other yo-yo.  I called back and demanded to talk to her supervisor. He was polite but the contacts he gave me in Kiev turned out to be bogus!  So, when I returned home I cancelled my membership and will never go back!
I'll say one thing nice about the site:  they have the best photography of the most beautiful women I have seen on any site!
