Changing the name of your brides kids...
« on: February 10, 2006, 01:03:08 PM »
Does anyone know the process for changing my bride's 10 y.o. daughters last name to match our own?

When we marry in 13 days her name will change as part of that process, but her daughters will remain.  We would simply like to change the daughters last name as well to match ours.

I know adoption is an option, but hopefully there is a simplier way.

The good news:  her daughter uses her maiden name, since she is Russian certified as a single mom.

Our school systems here (Texas) will allow you to enroll your child under any name you choose, as long as they have a record of the child's real legal name. School records then become the basis for other forms of ID, etc.  Check with your local school district and see what they say.  To otherwise legally change her name requires an adoption.

Maybe the laws are different in other parts of the country but in Pa you can have the courts change your name to almost anything you want.  You can go there and have your name changed to George W Bush if you want but I hardly think anyone would like to do that right now.
