I am sure this will result in lively debate but it is an important topic. For the context of this poll, if you tested for your current relationship, use one of the first 2 options. If you normally are tested, but not for your current relationship, the next 2 are appropriate.

I get tested 6 times a year.  Not because I'm sleeping around and worry that I might have picked up something.  I'm among the very small percentage of people who give blood on a regular basis.  To date, I've donated 234 times over the past 36 years.  It's a very good and easy way to give something back to society and the benefits are many, including testing for STD's and other irregularities that can show up in your blood.  A responsible woman will ask a man if he is "clean" and it's easy to assure her when I'm able to show and explain my donation card.  For her to prove that she herself is D&D free might be more difficult.  Having her tested may be the responsible thing to do but not practicle in spontaneous situations.  If in doubt, safe sex is the responsible decision.  CC

Also not just sex.  STD's can be transmitted in dental offices who are cutting costs and not throwing out certain tools or sterilizing certain tools.  This is a growing concern in Ukraine.  Same goes for lip tattoos.   I know some people like to get the dentistry work done in Ukraine but be careful - saving money in the short-term can cost you in the long-term.  Ukraine is more exposed to STD's each year and few people there are educated on it.

Based on the very high HIV rates in Ukraine and Russia. It would definitely be important for both parties to be tested. The last statistics I saw regarding the rate of infection for people in the FSU was very worrisome. The rates were double that of the US and they US wasn't exactly anywhere near being the safest in that area to begin with. Considering the rate with which Russia/Ukraine tends to hide really bad statistics, it is likely much worse.

US has a 0.6% adults with HIV rate, Russia 1.1% and Ukraine 1.6%.

Another disease to be concerned about it TB; tuberculosis. Ukraine and Russia have a ratio of about 25 times the rate of the US. Even in sheer numbers, there are about 5 times more people with TB in Ukraine than the US and it is much smaller country. Russia has close to 20 times more people with TB and again a smaller country. Russian ranks #12 on the list of number of cases of TB in the world. Not a good place to be.

My wife's sister was diagnosed w/TB in May, immediately after my wife visited. The treatment is a little odd - she has been quarantined at a hospital in Moscow since, they told her she has to stay there for two months.
