Hello!
« on: June 24, 2009, 02:39:10 PM »
Just a quick hello to everyone on this site!  I'm 33 and from the UK.
I've always found FSU women very attractive (looks, poise, personality, accent, the whole package! ;)) and decided internet dating was a good path to follow.

I wonder if you guys could give me some advice.
I've been writing to a lady from Nikolaev through AFA for quite a few weeks now.  After reading many of the posts on here I had no idea AFA had such a bad rep!
I took the advice of many of the posts and asked the lady for her home address, which she duly obliged.  However, I still get this inkling that she's being paid by the agency to write the letters.
After reading countless stories about western men being scammed, perhaps I'm being too paranoid?
Is there any way I can verify the address she's given me?

Cheers guys, any help would be much appreciated!  :D

Welcome Technique!

Paranoia can be a good thing and at times all you have to go on. I gather you haven't spoken to her on the phone yet? I would say one of your first orders of business to to have contact directly with the lady without agency intervention. If they make too many hurdles, move on.

Did you get an email address or just physical home address?

If you have her home address you can send flowers from an independent source.. maybe even get her cell phone number requested by the flower delivery..

I just got a physical home address.  Thanks I'll try sending some flowers; I think I remember seeing a link to a site somewhere in another thread.

She also gave me her cell phone number.  She said her original phone was stolen a few weeks ago, so now she's having to use her grandma's old cell phone.  She said it's a very old phone and sometimes it has trouble receiving calls.  Again, I could be acting too paranoid here, or she could genuinely have a crock phone.  I did try ringing it a couple of times last night and couldn't get through!  :-\

Thats pretty hokey and a red flag. Most generally, when a lady wants to talk to you, she will.

Grandma's old cell phone? That's choice. Well, try to get through, see what shakes out...

Try to rid yourself of the agency for sure, and if you hit walls at every turn, suddenly the
yellow flag fades to red. Exclusive communiques through AFA benefits AFA. Ditch 'em ASAP.

You might also Google unusual phrases in her e-mails and see if they show up elsewhere,
and under what circumstances. It's a pain to have to verify, but it could save you wasted
time and money in the long haul.

LOL no.. but I thought it was weird for a long time that she gave me her number pretty fast and then never answered.. it was a lady I met on a social networking site.. when I kept getting no answer I started to think it was a scam.. but I wasn't getting any "funny" letters so I was just being paranoid.. I had just gotten back from Kherson so I was in a phase so to speak.  Anyway.. when I finally did get her on the phone the woman was so exhausted and sounded so desperate I dropped her quickly.  I felt a little bad about it, her photos were stunning and her writing was nice.. but.. the voice on the phone was as I said.. that of someone desperate.. not especially to get out of Nikolaev.. but.. for some male attention.. the biggest negative was that she invited me to visit her after four or five letters and phone phone call that took over a month to execute.  We didn't know anything about each other.. so why did she think I would just hop on the plane to her???

That girl was real.. i have no doubt about it.. it was her personality that stopped me.

My phone was stolen just before we started writing?

It's a flag.

As the experienced people are telling you, take it seriously and explore the situation a bit more, then act accordingly. Don't just dump her, but simply state clearly that you are no longer communicating via letters through the agency and she can ring your number anytime. With caller ID you can call her back. With her mail address, rather than sending flowers, send a calling card and let her call you a few times as well.

If she's seriously considering a relationship with a WM this will tell you whether she is on the up and up.
Pick and choose carefully among the advice offered and consider the source carefully. PM, Skype or email if you care to chat or discuss

Yep, send some flowers. You can also get the flower company to take a photo of her with her flowers. Costs a few $ extra but at least you will have peace of mind........or not........

The dreaded no phone :( That always strikes me as odd. Get her personal email addy and google it and her IP.

If you can get her away from the agency and you can't prove otherwise then she is probably legit.

Best of luck and welcome to RWD :)
