Help with perfume choice
« on: August 30, 2009, 10:32:40 AM »
I've been to see this woman twice and things are moving along nicely.

In passing thru all the airports, I visit the Duty Free shops looking for a nice perfume to bring to her next trip.
Note that she smells great without perfume so I'm not trying to hide her body odor (it actually drives me wild to smell her skin.. pheromones maybe)
She uses some spray that actually smells better after it's worn off.

When I try to find something in the shops, after a few tests my nose is saturated and they all smell bad. Plus they never smell the same on a person as they do in the air.

Back in my younger days my woman wore Obsession and it was very nice on her but I've smelt it on others and it didn't smell as nice.

Anyway.. I'm looking for a recommendation for some nice perfume.

I would advice you somethink classic, like Chanel #5. Almost all women like it and it is always an example of a high-class parfume. I'm sure your lady will appreciate it and even if she will not use it daily for sure she will be using it for special occasions.
As a matter of biology, if something bites you it is probably female.

Perfume is a very personal choice.  Perfumes have different notes which react differently on different women.  Some women like floral scents, others can't stand them.  Others like something spicy, or citrusy, etc.

My first suggestion would be to ask your lady what perfume she would like you to bring her as a gift.  Often, a woman will wear a scent given as a gift so as not to offend the giver, even if she isn't crazy about the scent.

My number 1 favourite is Sisley's Eau de Soir.  It is very clean smelling, and not many people wear it.  Close seconds are Joy, Paris (heavier scents) or Eau de Givenchy (lighter, and citrusy).  A lot of women like Poison and Opium.  For something really unique, Borneo 1834 or (ETA) Tubereuse Criminelle, or Carnal Flower (the former is nicer, the latter, easier to find).  No one around her will have the last 3 scents.

After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

:D, I remember wondering the same thing. I have an older lady friend and I asked her advice. Her top suggestion in my situation was Elizabeth Taylor "White Diamonds". She told me it is unique to everyone who wears it and is always a good choice. Well...after 6 years my wife still uses White Diamonds quite a bit! So I vote for White Diamonds!

Don't give perfume; too easy to miss.  Try something more neutral like a brand-name silk scarf (also available at duty free) or a string of pearls etc.  Or ask her which perfume she would like to have.

My favorite is Missoni (original) - smells like chocolate and green tea. :)  But it's not sold very widely plus not everyone likes it.

The former Mrs. D was a huge fan of Estee' Lauder ' Pleasures'. It was a nice scent and I enjoyed it immensely.

At one point Nina (not the former Mrs. D) also expressed a preference for the same scent. Needless to say I was not enamored with her choice.

We settled on Nina Ricci 'Nina' for no other reason than it had her name on the bottle.

Truth be told, I still prefer 'Pleasures', but it reminded me too much of the ex.

Best advice: Ask her what her favorite is, then buy it for her.

Phil knows more about perfume, makeup, ice skating and gymnastics than any straight man should.  You can blame the former Mrs. D for this.

If you don't know the specific brand she likes, don't buy any.   Every perfume I bought my wife, she gave away.   When it was a tiny bottle I had paid $65 for,I had to ask why.   Her reason was because it was a personal thing and though I liked the smell when testing it on my own wrist, she didn't like any of them on her.

I also learned not to buy perfume ,EVER,for my wife.  I bought HER type one time and got a scolding for it.   Seems she had gotten tired of the same ol' thing and wanted to try something else.   So,she gave that one away as well and now is using her new brand and perfume purchasing is not something I need to worry about anymore.

One of the ladies advised scarves and such.   Listen to the ladies , :blowkiss:   they know more about RW than any WM could ever hope to.

You should just rub me all over her. Can't think of anything that smells better than me. Especially after I just came back from seven days of backpacking in the Sierra's. Umm I smell like a man!
