The place is/was full of hookers and drug dealers the one time I went there with a group of guys showing a newbie around. It's reputation has remained constant for years. Boring, loud and extremely poor selection of everything.

Oh, ok.  Yes, it has a well known reputation for hookers but that was the first I had heard it was a place where men had met their wifes.

They have moved some of the restaurants as well.  They were told more than a year ago they were going to have to move so should not be a surprise.  That entire area is a structural mess and they are fixing the area - sewers, radiation cleanup, etc.  One thing to remember about the Kievpost it is not the most accurate newspaper and very pro western.   The new owner of the paper is not in touch with reality in Kiev like the original owner. 

Longterm they want everything off the river but boat docks and permanent structures.  A floating whore palace and some dumpy floating restaurants makes no sense for tourism for Kiev.  The floating hotel there is a dump as well.  I used to own an apartment across from there over looking the water.  Could rent it out at $4,000 a month and was only 45 square meters (no elevator top floor - 5th or 6th I forget).  Gave it to my ex girlfriend in Kiev as I am moving on gift.    That building was going to get torn down as well in the future and people owning apartments were going to get nothing.  I told her to sell it not sure if she did.

Nah, not too worry, surely there will be other similar places popping up around in Kiev, or the dyev's of RP will probably find a new job in other establishment (Arena?, Shooters?).  There always be "trust worthy" establishments for naive foreigners who likes to travel halfway around the world only to pay a fortune for P4P, similar or more expensive of what they can find at home, Night Flight in Moscow proves it.
