Update on WN's quest for happiness in the shape of a FSU woman
« on: October 09, 2009, 06:09:00 PM »
Hi guys -

It's been a while since i posted here.

In summary, i went to meet two women in Russia - both in different towns - and ended up pursuing one.

Since we first met in Russia in May, we have had a 2 week holiday in europe and she also came to stay with me for a few weeks (I'm not in the US or UK).

All the signs and indications are good thus far, with no red flags.  We're in constant communication and i have developed very strong feelings for her - and her for me (according to her).  She's met some of my friends and they all approve too - which is always a good sign!

She's great fun and she makes me feel very good when i'm around her - and i'm missing her terribly!

So now, i am getting ready for the next step - another trip over to Russia to stay with her for a few weeks. At the end of the trip i'll be making a decision about whether to propose or not.

I've read here that there isn't as much of a culture of engagement rings in the FSU compared to the west, but for those of you who have been down this path before, did you give an engagement ring once she said yes?

Thanks for all your advice and support - this forum has been a big factor in my success!!!

I gave my wife a combination ring (the band fits the engagement ring as sort of a guard) but she regards the solitaire portion as an expensive piece of jewelry, only wearing the simpler band day-to-day. Usually she keeps it in her "jewelry house" (like a shrunken amoire) and only wears the solitaire when we go out to eat at one of the better restaurants or do something involving dress-up.

She understands our tradition and did shift the simple band to the left hand (as I did to the right when we lived over there) but the fancier ring just makes her a bit uncomfortable most of the time by being too expensive and awkward on her finger.
Pick and choose carefully among the advice offered and consider the source carefully. PM, Skype or email if you care to chat or discuss
