Citizenship celebration
« on: June 23, 2010, 06:57:40 PM »
Hey all,
Just wondering what those of you who are married did 'celebration wise' when your wives claimed their American citizenship.

Hi START !!  We ended up going out for a memorable dinner afterwards....  oh yeah, we also
made about a dozen phonecalls to those closest to us.

Is your big day approaching ?

I know how we'll celebrate , travel to a  country that would  ask  us for a visa  before  the  citizenship   , but not now , because she would be an American .
We are very limited  to very few countries   for traveling

Since you live in Tennessee and if you haven't already done so, how about taking her to Virginia to visit, Monticello, Mount Vernon, Jamestown and Yorktown and ending up at Arlington National Cemetery.  Whatever benefit she feels she will derive from her American citizenship she owes, as we all do, to those who sacrificed to bring the United States of America into existence and to preserve it over the years.

As you leave Arlington, you might point across the river to Washington DC and explain to her that right now the Republic is again fighting for it's continued survival only this time the enemy is a domestic one and that her vote in November will play a role in this nation's preservation.

Hey Start2, been a long time. When Iryna became a citizen, last July, about 8 of us went out to a nice restaurant and she insisted on treating us to dinner. She still refers to Ukraine as her country. I don't think she will ever consider herself 100% American.

Hi Larry, Vaughn,..... it has been a long time. Stayin busy, enjoying life, and this september will be 5 yrs. married. Keeps gettin better. Still go to Ukr. every summer and will next month.
Yes, Val has applied and will do the biometrics july 2nd. We were in no hurry but travel with her work will be much easier if she has her Am. passport. From time to time there will be trave to Chech. Rep. Also from what we hear, will hopefully make it easier for her mom to visit if she's a citizen. She'll retain her international passport. Our son can't apply for a few years. I know it's a few months off but as usual I'm trying to think ahead.
I was thinkin maybe an elegant dinner out but that seemed  easy or, pizza in Rome and home again.  :D   BTW, how long did it take to get Am. passport after she became a citizen. I assume it's the same process as it was for me/us.
  Congrats to both yor wives.
At some point I'd love to take her to DC...VA. etc. I know our son has really enjoyed all the civil war field trips from school. Tn has a multitude CW parks. Especially Shiloh.
Seems as though the forum has toned down a bit. That's a good thing. Can't get used to the PC trip reports where you don't talk about the women or who you met just what you did otherwise. Hmm. To each his own.
Larry, you have an anniversary coming up soon. Good job.
Vaughn, I read where your wife and daughter did a tag team app for citizenship. Very cool.

I would also add a trip to go see The Constitution and Declaration of Independence if you do the D.C. trip. You could also take a trip to Nashville, stay at The Opryland Hotel, do a concert and a dinner cruise on the riverboat. You could also do a trip to Pigeon Forge area.......lots of redneck things to do there, lol. After many years in Tn, I relocated to Las Vegas last year.

Thanks and yeah, Elvira & Lenara did a double app and were sworn in together. The passports took
a quick 22 days from time of application to receipt. Now they can vote - and travel more freely.

Ronnie, we should plan a gettogether with Larry and whomever else cares to show up in DC  and
take our citizen-wives through all the history. There are a few names on the Viet Nam Wall that I'd
like Elvira to see..  these were high school buddies of mine who never came home.

Darryl, our anniversary is August 26.

If I remember correctly, Iryna took the test about 9:30 am, passed and was swarn in as a US citizen in the afternoon. Probably took a total of 5 hours, including a lunch break and time in between. She received a document the same day but I don't think it was the permanent document. From what I remember, it did not take long for the US passport to arrive. It was a matter of weeks, not months.

Just let me know when and where we can get together and we will try our best to be available.

Here's a thread w/some test info and stuff to glance at.
A trip to DC would be appropriate too.
Both Svetlana and I have been there only not together [yet]....
