Citizenship Interview
« on: November 16, 2009, 04:53:28 PM »
My wife went to her appointment for her citizenship interview this past Friday.  She was recommended for approval and will take the oath of citizenship sometime after the first of the year.

There were a few last minute glitches though.  She had received a letter from the UCIS a month or so a go.  This letter told her what she needed to bring with her and recommended that she not have anyone accompany her unless absolutely necessary since the waiting area was quite small and no one would be able to be with her during the interview anyway.  So I stayed home.

During the interview the officer asked her for additional documentation of the validity of our marriage and asked if I was present since he would like to "interview " me too.  My wife politely showed him the letter she had received from the UCIS which listed the items she was to bring to the interview and recommending that she come alone.  He than asked her if she could go home get the additional documents and bring me back with her.  If not they would need to reschedule an additional appointment at a later date.  Fortunately, I was not working and the interview was held in the town in which we live.

My wife called me and I gathered the additional documents and returned with her to the local UCIS office.   When I arrived we handed the officer the additional documents.  He then asked me for my driver's license, which I gave to him.  After this, he told us that he was recommending Alla for approval and that we should receive a letter informing her of the date and time for the oath of citizenship ceremony.  That was it.

I will really be glad when we no longer have to deal with the UCIS anymore.
