American hospitals in Russia?
« on: December 06, 2009, 03:50:34 PM »
This is in reference to my earlier post on Nov. 26 ‘Volunteering in Eastern Europe or ? ‘.  I need to confirm something I heard recently.  Are there really American based hospitals in Moscow and St. Petersburg?  If so I’d like to find more info on them by the time I graduate but I can’t seem to find anything about them.  So if anyone can point me in the right direction I’d really appreciate it. Thanks.

There is a company (or possibly companies) called American Medical Center which has several branches (clinics, don't think they have any true hospitals) in both Russia and the FSU. As I understand it they were originally an American-owned/operated organization but they sold all but the Kyiv location to another group a few years ago. I doubt they would accept "volunteers" and equally would not expect any assistance from them regarding visas. Might find them willing to hire you in a one year position though, who knows?

There are several private clinics in Ukraine which have western staff, the American Medical Center is one and there is also a French outfit operating there. There have been some stories concerning doctors, EMT's and nurses who were frustrated that their skills did not seem to be in demand be it paid or otherwise. This seems to be a classic answer searching for a question or supply searching for a demand situation.

Value is relative.
Pick and choose carefully among the advice offered and consider the source carefully. PM, Skype or email if you care to chat or discuss

Thank you tfcrew, ECOCKS.   Perhaps if I decide to search again for a wife I'll consider the employment aspect of it. Until then...
