Men: Do you wear a wedding ring?
« on: December 04, 2009, 12:13:03 AM »
Just curious. My Dad does not. He says it is because he doesn't like the way they feel. I doubt I will either.

I did, always,
because i liked how it felt ;)
I wore on the right hand (orthodox style) ,i'm not sure why. it just is how it was initially put on.. so i stuck with the tradition.

Yes, always.

In Ukraine I wore it on the right hand to avoid confusion but now I am back to wearing it on the left hand.

Yes, a big platinum band, right handed as is most common in mainland Europe. I wanted one and it took some time to get used to one again but hey, it's a symbol of my marriage to an incredible woman so it was worth it. I don't think couples should feel it's a mandatory thing though, it's a choice and marriage is about more than a ring.

I'm curious how you would feel if your future wife said she didn't want to wear one though...?

Yes, but my father never did. The reason: rings can lead to lost finger if you are working around large machinery or doing physical labor. Fortunately, unlike my father, I don't have to work on the farm, so I even wear two: my original wedding ring on my right hand (the Russian way) and a new wedding band bought to celebrate our three years together on my left. Now, I will be married wherever I go  ;)

Yeap here also. We also do the swap hands thing depending on which country we are in.

I had an experience like Misha expressed above. I was jumping off a piece of equipment and snagged my ring. OUCH! Nasty tear cut and if a little chunk on my ring haddened give way it could have cost me a finger. SO! If I am in a situation where this could happen again I would take off my ring.

That's why I never wore a wedding ring when I was married.

I guess I should qualify my "always",
as of course if i was working in a situation that it posed some danger, i took it off,
but in any normal social setting,or just  in general ,yes i wore one.

24/7.

I think I've taken mine off maybe twice in the three years I've had it, and only for cleaning.

neither me nor my husband almost never wear our rings. We agreed upon this long before marriage.
Only very rarely. I don't know how my husband chooses when to wear his. I put my on sometimes - when i feel like, or when I am going to be in a crowd where it could be useful to show ring to avoid misunderstanding and awkward situations.

Jaded,

I wouldn't mind.

Nice answer. Most men would have issues with it I think. ;)

Always , before and after   marriage .
Had a lot  of clients hit on me  before I   had one . After I started to wear one , it was a different kind of women  who'd hit on me , the kind that thinks it's safe  cuss I am married , no chance of getting involved , just sex , I guess

Always.  24/7/365. I believe in marriage, the vows, and the symbolism inherent in the wedding ring.  I did not in my past life, and then I met Viktoriya.  If your beloved is the right woman for you, and you are the right man for her, perhaps you will feel the same.  Be careful of course in situation where injury is a possibilty, but also be true to your self, your wife, and the reason you married to each other.

I wouldn't marry a woman unless I trusted her completely.

No---but I usually have my hands in high voltage panels, or I am welding.

She wants a ring---but it must be "bank gold"---24k. I tried explaining it would be too soft; but she is adamant about that--until she finds one she likes, she says she will do without. It is only a symbol after all.
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.

Some jobs might be bad with a ring but working on power or welding you would use gloves (I hope). We did white gold bands.

at first my husband would forget to put it on and say that it doesnt feel comfortable, but now he wears it 24/7, im not sure how he sleeps in it, cuz sometimes my finer goes completely numb if i try to sleep with a ring on, but im really happy he wears it :P I dont really wear mine, cuz they are 3 sizes too big, just recently got around to making them smaller, weird thing they get free gold for it, yet they charge 80 euro to make it smaller. Hopefully now it will be more comfortable

I started only when I found my great grandfathers circular gold ring with some gemstones in it. It is beautiful looking ring and has more meaning than just marriage. He apparently designed it himself but I don't think men's wedding rings were a tradition back then - late 1800's.
