perfume / TSA
« on: January 08, 2010, 06:32:47 PM »
Didn't really think about it until after purchasing it.

Taking a 3.4 ounce (100ml) bottle of Chanel Mademoiselle as a gift.
That hits the maximum for TSA (from what I see).
Can I keep it in the box?
Do they inspect the box inside the plastic bag?
Since it has alcohol in it (and I imagine potentially flammable), can you even take it in a carry on?
Perhaps I should try to reach the TSA and ask, I don't know.
I suppose I could pack it in the checked baggage and hope it doesn't get lifted.  But it seems risky.
Thanks.

I would do checked bag unless you have a copy of the restrictions from the TSA website signed by Mr Obama himself.

Mighty risky. I'd put it in the checked bag.

Duty is not the issue.  The issue is going over the 3 ounce limit.  In the wake of the Christmas Day terrorist incident, expect some strict enforcement of the 3 ounce rule.

Put it in your baggage to be checked will not be an issue.  Carry it on the plane and watch it get thrown in the trash.

Duty free is a better option.

It neither exploded nor got stolen.
Color me surprised, frankly.
I expected it to be exploded if it weren't lifted and stolen if it weren't exploded.

I have packed many liquids in checked baggage including perfume. Never a problem. I keep on carry on bag as light as possible

TSA rules say no calogne of perfume in carry on bags.  Check it and it will make the trip,  don't and you will lose it.
In life my friend,  it is not what you have,  but what you believe.

I did indeed check it (thus the concern about it exploding, freezing, or being stolen).

I did not see the TSA ban, but figured I would play it safe rather than have a $100 bottle of perfume pitched.
