Green card interview questions
« on: May 24, 2010, 10:32:14 AM »
Hello, a quick update. My wife and I received our interview notice for the green card. I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me what kind of questions they asked. The only people I know who personally went thru this tell me they didn't ask any questions at all. I was wondering what to expect.

Also, after four months of marriage I can say I am very happy. I agree with everyone who said before I got married that the hard work would come after we got married. My wife's English has improved a thousand fold since she arrived. We rarely use even the dictionary anymore. That being said she now wants to work and I was wondering how long it took people to find their first job here? Any advice on the subject.

On the subject of the level of English of your potential search partner, after my few months, I am glad I made the choice I did. The issue is not the difficulty of her not speaking the same language as you. The issue is knowing what obstacles it will present and knowing how to overcome them and an immense amount of patience.

Presumably, that'll be her Conditional GC. They normally do not schedule interview for such BUT getting one doesn't denote much of anything other than making sure things are as they appear to be.

Generic relationship questions e.g. how well she knows you, b-days, age, what you do for work, etc...vis a vis. Nothing to get excited about so just remain cool, calm, and collected.

Good luck.

We met with an immigration official to change status from fiancee visa to conditional permanent resident.

It was not an interview because he asked no questions.  I asked him, "Why no questions?"  He responded that he observed us in the waiting room and could see from our interaction that it was a real marriage (two hyperactive kids were climbing all over me).

We spent 3-5 minutes shuffling papers, using rubber stamps, and adding signatures.  He answered our questions about the process in about 2 minutes.  We then said, "Thank you, good bye."

My wife and I had to go to an interview before they issued her GC. Don't sweat it, it's a piece of cake. I think the only Qs he asked us were "how are you guys doing?" and "when did you get married?"

The best thing about getting to this stage is that you have a nice break from the USCIS after a few years of being led around by the short hairs.

Our experience was exactly like Gator's, except we only brought one hyperactive kid.

Never was called for an interview - Green cards (her and daughter) simply arrived via US Post

Our May 2004 interview was like a friendly chat - without the coffee and crumbcake.

Good luck, remiel6

A few Qs & As and a glance at the marriage license,  usually intended to make sure that there was no deception in the fiance visa process.
I think we had copies of the marriage certificate.

For me this is a sweet image--I imagine that is all a government official would need to see.
