Driver's license and driving skill for women in FSU
« on: July 18, 2010, 06:15:50 PM »
How common is a driver's license and driving skill in FSU for women?  I have my impressions, but of course it is a relatively small sample.

Licences are common (How they are obtained can be questionable at times), driving skill is less so.

I think I remember watching a video of your wife starting to drive in Australia.  Is that posted on here somewhere?

It really depends on where in the FSU.  Two younger women in my wife's family in Moscow have driver's licenses, but they rarely drive.  Traffic in Moscow is insane and public transportation is good. A cousin in the suburbs of Tver drives often by FSU standards, probably 8 or 10 times a month, but the traffic is light.  When she goes into Tver she doesn't face the gridlock of Moscow and has only add a couple of minor accidents in over 10 years of driving.  Good by Russian standards.

Even in areas where women drive the most it is not anywhere near as common as the EU or North America.  As for their skill level bribes will get a driver's license and this happens.  Men and women are notoriously bad drivers in the FSU and women are worse and this is the opinion of my wife.

I/O you wife did a great job.  Traffic doesn't appear to be that bad in your city.  My wife had several attempts before she finally got her license.  In her defence the traffic in London is usually quite bad.

I'm immensely proud of her even if many would consider these things minor. Relocation sorted, Locomotion Sorted, I guess that leaves reproduction..........
