It's Saturday night in Odessa or Kiev and I'm going out to a club, bar, disco, the library...whatever.

What, if anything different am i going to notice between a Saturday night in the Ukraine versus one in the US?

A lot more smoke.
A lot more high heels.

If the library is open on Saturday night, then you cannot possibly be in Kiev.

But as my favorite Russian woman taught me... "Look under the table".

But it truly saddens me to know our good friend Boethius obviously missed the documentary done of the life and times of .

Truly unfortunate.  :(

Yes... Buddy Holly's death was just the beginning of the end.  It was Saturday Night Fever and the Bee Gees that really killed it for all of future humanity.  Then (for at least a time) the music died.

Rest in peace to the soul of 'Rock and Roll'.

Funny thing... it does seem to jump around generation to generation.  Still gives me hope.

Can you share? I looked up 'Brooklyn Tony' and it turned up a quick-witted, though a bit coarse, joke character (http://www.mylocation.net/BrooklynTony/index.htm) ;) - a sample:

Quote
Brooklyn Tony ON MATH:

Brooklyn Tony returns from school and says he got an F in arithmetic.
"Why?" asks the father.
The teacher asked 'How much is 2x3,' I said '6,'" replies TONY.
"But that's right!" says his dad.
"Yeah, but then she asked me 'How much is 3x2?'"
"What's the fucking difference?" asks the father.
"That's what I said!"

Cocktail "666"

At the end:

- Why he was screaming? It is just an ordinary cocktail!
- Yes, it is, but it cost $666

Ok how about 90 percent less fat women :D
Plenty of lard arses in FSU areas but they are better dressed (hence disguised) usually.

btw: your 'math' joke was pretty funny...so I'm going to share an urban American quasi-math joke and hopefully folks understand it is only a joke....

Teacher: Ok class, today we'll learn how to spell some words. We'll start with the word 'before'. Who wants to try first? she asks; 'OK Johnny, will you please spell the word 'before'?!

Johnny gets up and spells the word, "Before.  'B-E-F-O-R' - BEFORE!" exclaims Johnny.
Teacher: 'No, I'm sorry that isn't right. How about, hhhmmm, let's try Sarah! Sarah, will you spell the word 'before' for the class please?!"

Sarah nervously gets up and uttered, "Before. 'B-E-F-O-U-R' - BEFORE!".
Teacher: No sweetheart, that isn't right either! C'mon class, I know you can do this...let's see. Alright, let's have Barry try. Barry! would you like to try and spell the word for us?"

Barry: "Of course, Teach...no problem!" Barry Gets up and loudly said, " Before! "B-E-F-O-R-E" BEFORE!
Teacher: "Excellent Barry! Well done...now will you kindly use the word in a sentence for us, please."

Barry: Well of course Teach....'BEFORE'....one plus one BE FORE!"

I don't know what you notice when you are in a bar/lounge/restaurant/library in USA--one of the positive things about USA is diversity

Money talks in both places
No free pour bartending--standard for my European experiences, with one exception (trying to create a US feel)
Less playful staff (bartenders, waiters, bouncers, etc)
Face control--I like this though
5' 6" trolls with short haircuts, with at least four models and 6' 4" bodyguards with the same haircuts
Depending on where you are, women working the place for business, can be frustrating-don't find this in USA very often maybe only LV
Smoking
Dated music mixes, lots of light shows
Clubs stay open later than in most US cities
Russian language--in Russia and Ukraine that's what they speak, it's a good idea to speak some too

It has been said here, but there will be beautifully dressed, fit women, with long legs and shapely bodies--this is in the USA, but perhaps not as apparent to some on the site and also the scene is not as dramatically modelesque as in Ukraine/Russia (these scenes require $$$$)

Pink taxi cabs with feminine eyes--these really are for women only!!!

Jeez...do you people have ADHD or something?

I ask a question about Saturday night in the Ukraine and it turns into a fat people debate.

STAY ON POINT HERE! :wallbash:

I'm really surprised no one caught on to the actual point of my question, even though it wasn't stated. Usually you guys can see right through me. I must be getting better at this.

Rephrased: Is it easier to pick up a girl in one of these spots than it is in the states? There, I said it.

For some odd and hilarious reason I can picture a paunchy middle aged businessman in a bad suit wearing Hi Karate walking into a hot spot and immediately being mobbed by gorgeous women.
He then starts chopping them away with his registered weapon hands.

Are there still any "discos" in the states? True, I've been living in a cave for the last 20 years but I thought the last disco was 21.

I honestly do not know if it will be easier for you to pick up girls in FSU than USA.  I think Dr. Love can make it easier for you in FSU though.

Depends on what you are looking for... a girl for some fun, or a woman as a partner in life.  Not a judgment of those looking for a girl for fun, but I think more long term.  The Doctor hasn't mentioned it yet, but I am not sure he would have what I am looking for if I was still looking.

Of course it's going to be far harder for you to pick up a woman in any location in Kiev or Odessa than anywhere in the US.  First the local language is Russian, perhaps Ukrainian in some areas.  Are you fluent in either?  If not that eliminates about 98% of the women.  Some people, women included, don't have a good impression of the US that will eliminate more women.

IMHO the best method for picking up a women in Kiev or Odessa if you don't speak Russian/Ukrainian is to hang out at places where local women who speak English might be.  Schools that teach English would be a great place.  Also local spots like bars, restaurants and other places that expats might congregate would be good for finding local women.  Check the web for expat forums that have Kiev and Odessa as member cities.

I don't advise asking the expats where to go clubbing for pickups but to each their own.

Personally, I believe you'll find picking up gals less difficult than in the US. Will they be serious? Probably not, but maybe that is what you are looking for this time around.

Remember that you're far more likely to encounter a hooker there rather than back home so keep your radar turned on and avoid misunderstandings.

I'd suggest you invest in EM or get on one of the free sites and line up some meetings/dates during the days, then invite the ones you feel chemistry with out for the evening. Remember Tom Hanks' philosophy from Sleepless in Seattle, always make the first meeting for drinks or coffee, you can meet, chat, finish your drink and then go on but if you have dinner it locks you down for a couple of hours or so.

Speaking of ADHD, maybe it's contagious ;D
The women IMO are more approachable and if you find one that speaks English, do not be shy. You might be pleasantly surprised, but do be respectful.
Of course if you know any Russian it will be x100. Carry on soldier and do try to keep up :P

Why? A "good, knowledgeable" expat is priceless. One can also tell you where the clubs are that cater to RW who speak English and/or are specifically there to meet a foreigner (not talking about the working girls either) among other things.

For instance, I know a couple of places here to meet local girls (clubs) who speak English and alcohol isn't even served there. Better than bars BTW and I have picked up a few RW there myself. Good quality women to boot.

When I started coming to Russia asking expats this and that was essential. Yes you have to consider the source and you'll find out some things on your own, but I benefitted by asking expats about things when I first arrived here. The locals are just as good or bad depending.
