I don't think its luck ... I think I'm a dating average girl's (financially) and you must be dating 'rich' ones.

There's an American guy somewhere else in cyberspace who lives in Ukraine and is married to a 'very senior anesthesiologist', He recently stated that his wife earns less than $400 pm and he also stated that nurses in his wife's hospital earn less than half that amount.

Nurses are severely underpaid in Russia too.. Most make anywhere from $200 to $400 per month. Physicians start at less than $400 a month in smaller cities.. Senior docs and department heads are in the $2000-$5000 bracket, at least where I live.. You can probably double that for Moscow  :-\
Why get a ball and chain when you can get the milk for free?

Don't be surprised, vinny.. A lot of their salary is commission from so-called "paid services" offered by the hospital.. Every department head gets a cut. ;)

I don't know about the country in question here, which is Ukraine (not to be confused with the entire FSU), but in Russia $10 US IS nothing.. In fact, it's less than nothing, it won't even buy you a day's worth of groceries.. It might get you a short cab ride in a mid-size city or a beer in a fake Irish pub, but how many people do you know, or better yet, how many of YOU would work all day just for a chance to take a cab home at the end of the day?.

If you think it's wise to save on communication, that's fine by me, but don't sit here insulting mine and everyone else's intelligence with statements such as some of you have made.. :)

I admit $10 doesn't get you very far these days, but I was just just in a British pub the other day (on the Old Arbat no less) and bought 2 beers for $10, imported. Less than $6 domestic. If you mean less than 10-15 miles as being a short distance, then yes, about $10. This is in Moscow.

I can eat quite good for $10 a day here if I buy my food at a market and cook at home, at restaurants, of course not.

3 Eggs & potatoes for breakfast with juice – $1-2 breakfast

Tuna fish/grilled trout with a bake potato and a fruit smoothie $4-5 lunch

Grilled chicken with brown rice and an American salad and juice $3-4 dinner

Given the level of English in these parts, $10 an hour is more than fair.

WOW those are some cheap prices! You couldn't get any kind of dinner around here for less than $20-$40.. I think the cheapest salad I ever had was $10 a plate.. but then I've long suspected most things are way overpriced in Siberia. $10 for a 15 mile ride sounds suspicious though, especially for Moscow.. Are you sure you're not using gypsy cabs?

It's home cooking my friend, not at a restaurant ;D. Yes I'm talking about gypsy taxi's as well, but I do pick and choose what car I will get into, most are decent.

200 ru from the Arbat to my home, which is about 10 kilometres. Oh, and that's late night in the rain and snow  8)

They have business lunches now (salad, soup, main course and drink) for 180-300ru all over Moscow these days. Maybe you should move here :P

Vinny, you are absolutely correct.  The higher numbers some guys are talking about exist only in Moscow, and in other places are earned by very, very few women.

One of my gals is in very high bracket ((like more than $3,000 pm) but the others are down in $200-400 bracket.  And they are just as highly educated, but unfortunately in the wrong fields.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

Keep in mind that translation work, especially in the MOB industry, is not a 9-5 job.. There's only so many hours one can put in each month.. :) And no, I don't think anyone makes $200 a month anymore.. Might have to get Nat to confirm, though..

I confirm - only state teachers and doctors get such small salaries.
